Pc gets hot and loud, what should i do?

FHK

Hi.

Since day one my pc has been getting hot no matter what game I throw at it. It doesn't have a lot of fans and I know that it's a problem and I intend to put more fans in but I don't know how many to put in.

I have attatched pictures that show some temps and more after 5-10 min slow gaming in 7dtd which is a game that doesn't take a lot to handle.
I have also attached a picture of the inside of my pc where you can see what room I have and what way the fans point now ( I have been told by the company that build the computer that the fan for the cpu is supposed to suck in air from the back because of preasure or something I don't remember)

I am thinking of going with some be quiet! Pure Wings 2 Fans 120mm for hopefully more airflow and less noice (and because they are cheap). I don't know if I should get pwm or not.

Pc specs:

  • CPU
    Intel Core i9-10900KF
  • Motherboard
    MSI B560 A PRO
  • RAM
Gigabyte AORUS RGB Memory 4x8GB 3333MHz
  • GPU
MSI GeForce RTX 3070 VENTUS 2X 8G OC LHR
  • Case
    NZXT H511 Flow - Black
    Cooling
    NOCTUA NH-D15S chromax.black CPU Cooler

    Thanks in advance!

66-71c? these are well within safe number range, you can leave it as is imo. does it hit 90c+ or something after a long time? otherwise, i'm not seeing the reason for concern.

edit: as far as the loud part, you can purchase some quieter fans, or switch to an aio if you would prefer a quieter build?

It's not as much a concern and more a thing I would like to be better it does tend to get warmer after time but never above 90 it's normally more in the 80+ in more heavy games. plus the noice is very annoying. But it has shut off once because of overheating doing COD MW2

Looks like a pretty quiet system.

You would have to ruin that with more case flow, or try running with the side panel off maybe.

AMD R7 5800X3D | Thermalright Aqua Elite 360, 3x TL-B12, 2x TL-K12
Asus Crosshair VIII Dark Hero | 32GB G.Skill Trident Z @ 3733C14
Zotac 4070 Ti Trinity OC @ 3045/1495 | WD SN850, SN850X
Seasonic Vertex GX-1000 | Fractal Torrent Compact, 2x TL-B14

Okay thanks I think most of the sound comes from the fans on the gpu.

Do your GPU fans run at 80% when you are playing a game?

If so, you may have a case fow problem.

It goes to 70% at the start 70c and stays there.

Your issue appears to be related to the conflict between the exhaust fan and the CPU fan. Regardless of whatever nonsense the builder told you, your CPU temperatures would likely be better if the fan on the heatsink was flipped the other way, such that it actually exhausted towards the exhaust fan, rather than away from it. The fans are fighting each other.

Why is your airflow setup this way? It should be setup front to back. Surely looking at this and what you wrote you can see why this won't work.

This is a problem and going to cause your CPU to get no fresh air, if not choke completely.

That was what I said aswell but was told it was best for preasure or something.

Either whoever told you that was incredibly wrong or you misunderstood. Flip that middle fan to pull from the front of the case and exhaust out the back.

Yea that was what I thought aswell from what I could tell by a little smoke test all the hot air goes from the cpu to the gpu.

welp, I'd really recommend trying @GuiltySpark_'s advice,

you don't want hot air hanging around inside case, you want it out,

that exhaust is stealing air from the reverse-intake tower cooler, that's why mostly the tower coolers blow in the direction of exhaust, so the exhaust can take the hot air out of the case

I have done a test before and after turning the cpu fan I can see a 7c difference on the gpu and no dif on the cpu so it has helped alot Thanks for the help.

For the CPU, is this under similar conditions, including running applications/games?

Cpu temp is only 65 under the same stress as the test so that's no problem.

Respectfully disagree.

Airflow configuration was set up slightly incorrectly, causing higher temperatures, and leaving cooling performance on the table based on a fundamental misunderstanding of how airflow works.

What stress test?

I was looking at your photo closer that you provided in the OP...Is your heatsink bent on the right hand side at the bottom? Or is it just how the photo makes it look?

That rear fan looks like one of those goofy airflow only fans. Could be a problem since its right up against the chassis.

It's not bent it's just the photo.
