Anyone else have a partner that complains about your "wasteful" three monitors or "unsightly" VR cameras or mistakes boxed games/blurays on the shelf for books only to become disappointed upon up-close inspection?

She HAS to use everything tech, and everything is awesome, but for her, it never seems to work, ever.

Although I am aware that others in my life don't really understand my love for tech/computers. But that isn't even my biggest/most expensive hobby/collection. Most people don't get that one either, so bleh.

My ex would get upset at me when I was really into rooting my phone as it would make me unavailable and I would occasionally miss/lose text messages.

For me, its not my GF, its my dad.

Dad: "You are always OPTIMIZING your pc, is it not fast enough?!"

Me: "No dad, its called overclocking!  It is part of the custom PC experience!"

 

Dad: "Isn't your monitor good enough?  Its a whopping 75fps!"

Me: "No dad, i want 144!"

I used to have a client who was both fascinated by tech, and at the same time, quite useless with it.

She once bought a very fancy wireless mouse, with many buttons and scroll wheels.

 

Installed batteries (correctly), plugged in wireless dongle (also correctly), turned mouse on, set it down and tried to use it.

When she pushed the mouse upward, the cursor moved downward. Left was right, etc. Obviously she'd placed the mouse wrong way 'round, and the solution would be obvious, turn it around, right?

 

No, she learned to use it that way, and got highly upset if you "fixed" the mouse and tried to use it the correct way.

My ex loved technology, but she was so bad with it. I have no idea why. She was very intelligent, PHD student. She just could not get around the simple aspects of it. Took me like 2 weeks to get her comfortable with her Switch

Im married so it complicates things a little as we have a joint account. But for the most part neither one of us cares what the other buys.

I just flipped my mouse 180 to see what it would be like...

 

Other than not being able to reach my scroll wheel easy, I could see how someone could get used to it, if it was their first time using it.
