AMD is reportedly getting the Radeon RX 3080 XT ready for E3 2019 with its Navi 10 GPU on the 7nm node, with what should be 8GB of GDDR6 memory. The Navi 10 GPU will, according to the new leaks, feature 56 compute units from the Navi 10 GPU on a 190W TDP and provide performance close to NVIDIA's Turing-based GeForce RTX 2070. All of this will reportedly launch for $330 which would be a game changer. NVIDIA sells its GeForce RTX 2070 graphics card for $599 which would mean if the rumors are true and the purported Radeon RX 3080 XT does indeed sell for $330 and has the performance of the RTX 2070, NVIDIA wouldn't be in trouble but it will have to react with massive price drops.  

 

I kind of like this and I think the 3000-series marketing could work very positively for the company if they come out of the gate and sell it like this and start the relationship back up with PC gamers since RTG has been virtually silent since most of the core team left, most of them joining Intel's new discrete graphics team led by ex-RTG Raja Koduri and Chris Hook.

If this all turns out to be true, it looks like 2019/2020 will be another good year for PC Gaming. With extensive competition in the CPU space - memory and storage at crazy low prices. We will definitely see an influx of newcomers. Especially, if this is even remotely accurate. It will be up to NVIDIA to answer back, because if you can get RTX 2070 performance for $330, RTG will be severely undercutting NVIDIA with the RTX 2070's current cheapest offering at $455.

Read it. Don't believe it. I'm not even certain that it'll paper launch at E3 frankly. If it does, great. I'm betting the RX 3080 top of the line is more between 2060 and 2070, around overclocked 2060 performance, and with a $350 MSRP, right in line with RTX 2060, but with some aggressive third party deals to make it the better value. AMD will not compete on the high end so long as they're bound by an iteration of the GCN architecture IMHO.

I couldn't agree more, not just about the graphics cards, but the proposed naming schemes for Ryzen 3rd generation as well. Be prepared for MANY people will be coming to their defense shortly.

I mean that's not really surprising is it? They did it with 3/5/7. If they wanted to follow that trend (and not redo their naming scheme) there's not really anything else to name it.

Since it's using GDDR6 I guess the price is semi more reasonable than what it would be with HBM2. Little late to the game but I guess better late than never if the price is right. I am more interested to see what happens when there is Intel, AMD, and Nvidia all competing

AMD does this every time they launch something. Over-hype the shit out of it so expectations are nice and high, then when it actually launches, it's nowhere near the hype and everyone is disappointed.

Sounds too good to be true, so it probably isn't.

At this point, I'm wondering why not just repurpose Vega 56, get rid of expensive HBM2 on it and call it a day? Hell, Vega 56 cards already cost as low as 244€ ($273 and that's with European VAT included!). Old tech or not, the cards are still very much capable...

 

As for nay sayers, has everyone forgot what RX480 was to GTX980 at the time? It delivered basically the same performance at half the price. Why is everyone in absolute disbelief for this happening again? AMD is in much better financial position thanks to Ryzen than it was back in Maxwell 2 days.

 

The naming scheme, I agree... The chipsets situation is so bad even I as enthusiast often ain't sure if I'm thinking about Intel or AMD chipset thanks to confusingly similar naming schemes. There was no need to follow this idiocy again and mimic NVIDIA's naming scheme. I actually really liked the Vega 56 and 64 naming scheme. Names are nice, easy to remember. Navi 56 and 64 would sound nice too.

Then "Let's start with the 'best budget GPU' and 'best budget CPU' that actually fits what I think is my budget."

Realizing my budget is a lot less, I work my way to "I think these new games will run on a cheap ass CPU."

Then end with "The new parts launching next year is probably gonna be better and faster for the same price so I'll just buy next year."
