5950X runs hot, or hot in my eyes

So, me and my girlfriend have basically identical setups, besides the graphics card. My cpu tends to run hotter than hers, and I have the fans set to cool more aggressively as well. The core sits around 45-55 Celsius, and sometimes I can get it down to around 39. I also understand the 5950X is a bit of a hot chip anyways, but I figured a 360 aio was enough to keep it cooler than normal, but at times it just seems to struggle to keep the temps down at idle. Underload it does its job fine.

What is your paste on the CPU?

i think its some corsair paste, I was wondering if getting some thermal grizzly or artic paste would make that much difference

Identical in CPU coolers aswell? Could just be different paste spread or plate contact.

Either way, it's not that hot:

your definitely not supposed to put it in your eyes tho.

actually, the truth is that's not hot at all, nothing you can do besides LN2.  good luck!

Seeing a difference between setups is normal - Expected in fact because no two systems will behave the same way.

As long as it's not pegging 80c+ or even higher while under a constant load it's fine.
Even if it's hitting 80 or better, as long as it does it as temp "Spikes" (Not sustained) under load it's still OK.
If it's hitting 90c or higher regardless, temp spikes or not is when you'd want to start worrying about it.

Maybe a remount/reTIMming of the cooler will help - Sometimes it does.

This CPU (Assuming PBO is enabled) just runs real hot.

I have a 5900X with an NHD15 strapped to it and adequate cooling I hit stable temps in the 83C to 87C when under load (depending on the load), this is with all the case and the D15's fans blasting and no load on the GPU.

When I first running the build through it's paces I actually took the cooler off to verify the thermal paste application as well confirm that I did not forget a peel or something, but my application was solid (I repasted after this) and there were no peels missed.

The high end chips of the 5000 series just run really hot.

(for additional reference the case in use was the Antec P101 Silent Guardian, with the front panel propped open for increased cooling, and the fans all configured to respond to the CPU's temps.

It's actually not a "hot" chip. The high idle temps is just by design. AMDs latest CPUs idles with high VCore to have the cores ready for high clockspeed spikes for when you fx launch a program or a game. Then under load, with a steady load, overall VCore lowers and that's why temps seem fine under load.

With AMDs 7000 series CPUs, they run "hot" under load too but that is also by design. They will boost until hitting around 95c, to squeeze every bit of performance out.

You and your girlfriends PCs may have a different temps because of different motherboards supplying different amount of voltage, could also be your girlfriends CPU is a golden one, a good sample. But anyhow, your chip is running just like it should. You can relax the fans and let it idle around 50/60c, it's just fine.
