macOS Mojave 10.14.4 enables automatic Dark Mode on websites with black themes

Mac users were given a Dark Mode in macOS Mojave which Apple showed off at WWDC 2018 

 

This feature was previously limited to system applications. Now however, Apple has expanded Dark Modes reach to include websites in macOS Mojave 10.14.4 Beta

Apple in October put out Safari Technology Preview 68 with support for the prefers-color-scheme media query for styling dark mode content. This experimental feature’s now made its way into the Safari browser that ships in the macOS Mojave 10.14.4 developer beta.

This feature can be enabled by going to the "Develop > Experimental Features > Dark Mode CSS Support

 

This feature does depend entirely on the developers of websites to enable Dark Mode CSS support to their sites.

You have no idea how happy dark themes are finally becoming a thing, and people are finally recognizing why its useful. 10 years ago people just assumed I wanted dark themes because I was trying to be an edgy teenager or something. When really its cause I was usually up all night.

This is the only good part about Mojave so far. Made the fatal error of updating my el capitan virtual machine to Mojave and now it has no ableton live support, no Nvidia driver support etc. Apple needs to actually get some support behind their updates before launch, it's like throwing a baby into a pool. It might drown, it might swim, depends on whether or not it can reach those pool floaties, i.e. driver support.

I mean, Macs aren't supposed to use Nvidia Graphics with the exception of the remaining relics that have them built in. The Ableton Live thing is the responsibility of the developers of Abelton

But they could give Ableton a heads up. Nvidia graphics have been supported in all past versions of Mac OS, people are losing tons of software access, sound packs, plug-ins etc. out right because Mojave upsets your Ableton install.

True tone is annoying, but somewhat understandable... But no, I mean night shift and related. Though they have pushed more of the night shift BLR into true tone, which is stupid and not good.

 

I mean... as long as it is an easy to find and disable feature, it isn't a huge deal, but I don't like the trend towards 'give option, make option default, remove optionality' behavior we see from a lot of companies in these cases.

Nothing fundamentally changed that should cause Abelton to stop working. Graphics APIs remained the same, just the OS uses Metal now. OpenGL still works. 

 

Whatever broke with Ableton is completely on them. None of my applications flinched from the update to Mojave.

go to accessibility, and turn on smart invert colors. 

 

it makes some apps look weird but you can map it to turn on or off if you triple click the home button. 

i'm sure you can map it to another button on iPhones without a home button but i don't have one so i dunno.
