Sure, like copying Apple's 4,000 mah battery, continued SD and jack support, finger print reader, iris scanner....ah fuck it, just throw an entire pen in the phone too. Meanwhile Apple is complaining that the jack and a type-c port is too big.

Oh, are we gonna deny that companies copy Apple? Kay.

Yeah, the two design languages are not even similar

Which was inspired by Essential phone. Which is still probably the sexiest phone with a notch to this day

I don't get it.

OLED display are transparent. just make it that the notch appears when the front camera or sensor are enabled.

I guess, it add obstruction to some level to the camera lens and affects the quality of the front camera... but the big question; do most people still care about selfies so much, as in, you will  buy a phone with a notch for a slight improvement to the selfie camera over one without one?

Say what you will about the Notch, but at least the way Apple does it, they can get some good depth data for their lighting effects in the camera app. If you're going to have a notch, make sure its justified.

And while I don't personally have more than 4 selfies on my phone, about 3 of which have my dog in it.......many people out there so want the best selfie camera they can get.

The only notch I could tolerate, MAYBE, is one of those drop shaped ones. Those actually look like a fashion choice, accent kinda thing. And not like a compromise that absolutely needed to be placed right in my face.

If Samsung adds abominations as well, I will just stop buying new phones until this trend stops.

It kinda depends which phone they put the notch on.

It might be for their midrangers but the flagships might have that notch-less design

Either have a big notch and proudly display it like the iphone, or don't have the notch at all. It seems Samsung is having a hard time deciding, should they have a notch or not. In the end, they went f*ck it, and made a hole notch, by drilling through the front glass.

So there's clearly a lot of technology within the notch, the Doc is right. Hopefully they can get to a stage where those already small components can get even smaller, and the notch can be nearly unnoticeable. Either way, it's a compromise at the moment, you either don't have an facial scanning, front speaker and front camera or you have a notch.

My plan is still to wait out this phase of mobile devices, we'll see how that goes.

I'd rather have the standard notch over the "Infinity-O". Thing just looks stupid.

Let's be honest here, they both look stupid because having any portion of the screen cut out is stupid. I would rather have a damn flip phone than these dumb designs. I have never once though that I needed an extra 5mm of screen space so much that I would make a dumb design that has part if the screen cut out.

I think they should have a notch that is across the entire top of the screen. It will be this revolutionary thing called a bezel.

I mean that is the whole purpose of the notch. If you can squish all components to the center you can then use the unused space for screen, like notifications.

Which brings up a point. HTC really didnt get shit for sliding the "notch" to the left and having a mini screen for notifications years ago. But now if you move the on screen notifications to the same spot people lose their shit....?

A lot complain about the notch, but if they think for second, the "notch" is always there.  The side of the screen, is extended to, where parts of the bezel used to be.

2014, the One M8 was the last HTC phone really "worth" it.

And that's assuming you get the Android version instead of the Windows Phone version (remember that? :P)

You're right, though I still think it's far from the ideal solution and that it's a compromise due to the fact technology just hasn't advanced enough.

Ugh, I just wonder what their flagship will look like. Hopefully with this "New Infinity" with everything under display. Maybe not initially but in time. Hopefully flagship retains no notch design, would also like to see the 'edge display' dead.

So I guess we'll see what they bring with S10 soon.
