Mini: EXPAND DIMM - Samsung Releases 256GB DDR4 DIMMs

TL;DR:

Samsung is now producing 256GB DIMMs. Allowing up to 1TB on boards with 4 slots, 2TB on boards with 8 slots.

My Thoughts:

X599 is going to have a high bar to reach, although I sure hope it'll allow these since X499 is rumored to be 8 channel.

... Na it be too expensive/pointless for most Youtube channels...  Well except for maybe one I can think of .

I would imagine this will drive down RAM costs, slightly, as it will also enable sizes smaller than 256GB DIMMs. 32GB DIMMs won't be as stupid expensive as the current 32GB DIMMs are.

This would be really cool. If games could “cache” their entire contents Into memory for you if they detect your memory pool is large enough and enable something like that

 

your storage would still have to be fast. That would be the bottleneck as the initial transfers to RAM would take a while

 

if only we could have non volatile but super high speed memory without using batteries.. then we could just use memory as storage all the time lol

With 8gb normal 2933 ddr4 ram costing 90€ rn, this would put us at 2880€, make atleast 10% on top, so roughly 3000€/stick. Holy shit. I'll take 10.

To be fair, if you need over a TB of ram you probably want the server platform anyway...
