I'm not at home, and didn't set it up so I could remote into my rig from work. Seems like I've been getting a lot of small WUs in the last day or two. Around this time two days ago I was at 352 WUs done.

I kind of like the system used on World Community Grid. You get points for BOINC but badges based on aggregate CPU and GPU compute time. Almost at 90 years on Open Pandemics

So I did a short video of my folding rig and posted it to reddit pcmasterrace. Maybe you will enjoy this as well, it's the machine that pumps out my numbers. It's a zero information video but it might cause some amusement here.

But I've been taking advantage of the poor performance to do some maintenance and move some GPUs around.

 

She that must be obeyed has hinted they'd like a computer they can game on for their birthday in a couple of weeks so I rearranged some "old" hardware:

  • 2600x
  • 2 x 8GB DDR-2400
  • Aorus b450 Pro M
  • 256GB NVMe
  • 3TB 7200rpm Seagate ES HDD
  • EVGA GTX 1070ti
  • 500W Corsair CX Power Supply

Installed Win10 Home on the NVME leaving 40GB so I can dual-boot into Ubuntu.

 

All I need now is a new case so I'll likely pick up a Fractal Focus G Mini as you can't find stock on the Meshify C Mini anymore. The hardware is currently in a Fractal Core 1100 but: a. It's ugly as sin and b: it's a tad warm even with a 1800rpm 120mm front-intake, slim 120mm side exhaust and 92mm 3200rpm rear exhaust.

 

So I'll lose 12 threads and a GPU from my BOINC arsenal until I can replace the hardware but as the old saying goes: "Happy Wife, Happy Life" 😄

I think a lot of the problem is it all depends on which projects you are getting. Since Covid WU's have dryed up I've been getting Cancer and Alzheimer WU's and they have a big difference in PPD. I've been getting Cancer WU that have a PPD as low as 1.4M and Alzheimer WU's with a PPD as high as 2.5M.

Agreed. The 18202 and 18203 WUs _ALMOST_ reach the same rate we were seeing from the Moonshot WUs but the 17-series vastly under perform in comparison.

 

I suspect part of the difference may be that some of these projects are being restarted and may not have been built with the improvements in GROMACS and OpenMM that the newest CUDA cores have and partly that the projects are initially investigating molecules with a smaller atom size and thus less efficient on medium and large GPUs.

 

If anything projects should be spending more time in Beta now giving the testers and researchers time to better adjust the point value of a WU so that we are seeing such drastically lower (a 20-25% decrease) PPDs is hopefully anomalous and something that will improve with time.

I've been having the same issue since about 3am EDT.  F12 console messages looks like it's a CORS policy issue.
