Car Enthusiast Club [Now Motorcycle friendly!] - First thread to 150k! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

Am I permitted to post some pics I've taken while car spotting in this thread?

Mine's pitch black.

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

Wondering if I should save up and grab a 2013 manual Abarth to replace my Fiat 500 sport w/a manual trans. The Fiat has been dead reliable, only issue I've had is the clutch depressing to the point where it got stuck(was a factory defect that they fixed) and a window regulator died because someone slammed my door too hard. I'm just worried about the reliability of turbos and how long a 4 cylinder engine will last with a turbo.

the only Fiat 500 I would buy is the abarth version.

but I have no clue how reliable they are... I suspect they kind of fall apart like other chrysler products lol. But they are neat/fun

I've got 200k miles on the odometer I believe? I'll have to go back and check again. I agree, chrysler products do tend to fall apart but my Fiat has been great. I've had no major issues whatsoever, only 2 things ever needed a fix and neither of them were really the fault of the car (the clutch just didn't have a stop out of the factory so you could press it in, infinitely.)?‍♂️. The clutch pads are still in pristine condition with little to no wear according to the dealership and I only changed my brake pads once because I figured some fresh ones couldn't hurt despite the fact the old pads still had meat on them.

also in general more filter material to hold all the junk.

It's amazing how much dirtier DI is. The oil is still a goldish color on my miata after 6000 miles but the qx80 at that point is jet black

I drove my car about for a few days after an oil change then got back a month later and it was jet black. Peugeot also has an 'Oil Colour Indicator' on their engine for ease of testing. (Small oil leak)

It was a factory mistake, nothing to do with the car. They weren't doing a trans clean up, they just needed to replace part of the clutch. They showed me the pads and I can verify they had little to no wear.

not a fault of the car huh? lol...

^ they lied to you. Highly doubt they pulled a transmission(several hour job) just to check your "clutch pads" (proper name is clutch disc)

that said your clutch is probably fine if driven normally but it's not something you can just take a look at real quick and check...

Let me rephrase that, it wasn't a fault of the car being unreliable. It's not like a head gasket blowing or a steering column failing due to poor reliability, it was a design oversight.

also in general more filter material to hold all the junk.

It's amazing how much dirtier DI is. The oil is still a goldish color on my miata after 6000 miles but the qx80 at that point is jet black

Doesn't help that regular nissan filters are the size of lawnmower oil filters.

Either that or I swap the turbo on my GTI sell it and buy a RS.

Only the RS if it has the head gasket fixed (in theory they should all be serviced by now, but unless people are lazy and didnt do it...) and you find it at a reasonable price

Generally motorcycle oil should be changed more often because the oil is shared between the engine and the clutch, and clutches give off a lot of particulates. I generally change the oil in the motorcycles every 1000 miles.

I changed the oil in it twice in a weekend, once! :D

yah i dont think the previous owners have cared much about maintnance seeing as the tires were from 2001 on it, which is when it was imported into Sweden from Germany. Its had 6 owners here and been sitting for the last 7 years.

An oil change per season or so should be enough but il see how much i ride, hopefully enough to need to change it more than that :D Need to actiually check the bottle next time i buy oil though because now they have started to add PET and shit that makes the clutch slip if you pick an oil with it
