Do you know a lot about the backend? xD

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.

 - Why does my computer get such low fps (Their computer is a 3 year old laptop)

 - Why is my mouse/keyboard/screen not working (It's not plugged in)

 - Why is my program that creates files not working (You need to save the file so it knows where to put the other files)

Not at all, just talking about computer tech made me seem like a quantum physicist to her.

The one that's on my mind, that one that annoys me more than others is: "Will [already powerful processor] bottleneck [video card]?" For several reasons:

  • The person usually doesn't say what games they run. So the answer is open ended
  • There's little hard data on the subject, making it guess work at best
  • I think people think if x setup performs worse than y setup with the same GPU, it means x setup is bottlenecking. Well... technically, but a bottleneck to me means you aren't getting any more performance after upgrades. In my case, I could get worse scores in some benchmarks on an i7-6700 vs an i5-4670K, but upgrading the video card on the i7-6700 still yielded impressive boosts.

"Can you fix my computer?"

Jeez, what's WRONG with your computer, I can't just fix it with no info.

"Is [insert] good?"

For what?

"Can you make my computer faster?"

Jeez.

My best (or worst depending on how you look at it) moments.

"This game says it needs to update how do i update it?"

"You press the big 'Update' button in the launcher"

"Thx it worked"

"Can i put a graphics card in my laptop?"

"If it already has a graphics card you might be able to upgrade it but it's probably more worth it to by a new PC"
"Does mine have a graphics card? It's an MacBook 2012"

"What Programming language should i learn?"

"What do you want to program?"

"Computer stuff"

Any time people replace the names of the hardware they're asking about with completely useless or ambiguous terms.

Such as...

-Referring to a GPU by only its buffer size.

-Referring to a GPU/CPU by only its vendor.

-Referring to an Intel CPU as only "i3/i5/i7."

-Referring to a CPU by only its clock.

-Referring to a CPU by only its core count.

-Referring to a prebuilt, laptop, or phone by only its brand.

The list goes on, and that fact deeply saddens me.

"Do as I say, not as I do."

-Because you actually care if it makes sense.

Here are a few:

Whats an OS?

Do Macs get viruses?

Any case where people ask me something about their computer like "What is my RAM speed?" me: "idk i dont even know what your computer's specs are. what RAM brand/model do you have?" them: "16"

And this one isn't really aggravating or tech related, more like gaming related, but I heard this at my friend's party a few days ago while playing a game: "Guys, what's the punch button?"

Intel i5-6600k (Cooled by a 212 evo) - Asus Z170-A - Asus Dual OC GTX 1060 - NZXT S340 - WD 1TB (Getting SSD this month, hopefully) - 8GB DDR4-2400

LG G4 - Asus Zenwatch 2

Actually it is... if one feels the need to ask such a question, especially taking age into account, then they have obviously failed to conduct sufficient research and therefore should have no business trying to build.

I... don't think you know what research is.

Why does everyone call a computer case a "CPU"? IT'S ANNOYING! The CPU is inside the case, it IS NOT the case.....

"This phone has quad cores, that means its faster right?"

No.. a dual core can be faster since each individual core is faster.

"but this phone has 4 cores!"

"Will my 4 core intel processor bottleneck my 1070?" lately.

It just refuses to die I remember I uploaded my second youtube video ever because people on these forums kept saying "It is bottlenecking!" when it just doesn't outside of the very limited high refresh rate 1080p scenario.

Many quad cores will without a doubt bottleneck a 1070.

Good luck using an 1070 with AMD Sempron 3850 1.3GHz...

I said intel, not that fucking potato. Also an AMD quad core that can compare (It can't compare, but at least it won't be laughably worst) would be the 8320 their "cores" are still sharing resources. They're possibly better than hyperthreading but not as good as 8 actual intel cores for example.

I think the most annoying questions I heard is while I was doing help desk during a military exercise.

Will this ink cartridge work in our printers (after we told them which type to get), and how come we can't use our password on both our accounts (note: separate accounts on separate networks).  Good luck explaining that to a non techie person.

  1. What programming language(s) should I start with?
  2. How do I do xyz in Visual Basic? (being asked >= 2016)
  3. Can you help me with my programming homework/assignment? (can you do it for me)
  4. How do I fix this code? (consisting of context-less stack trace, error message, screenshot and/or words such as 'it's broken')
  5. How do I learn how to hack?
  6. How do I write an operating system?
  7. How do I write a game?

Quintessentially these account for a large percentage of the thread count in the Programming subsection...

Maybe I'm missing something here but why is asking what programming language to start with stupid to ask?
