It is Now Illegal to Rip CDs You Already Own in UK

Thanks to a new UK High Court ruling, ripping  a copy or burn a second copy for your legally own Music CD ,Blu-Ray film is illegal.


So, according to the High Court, if you want a separate copy of an album you already own, to listen to in your car, you are “harming” the copyright holder by not buying a second copy, despite there being no proof of lost sales due to such practices.
 



In a nutshell, the court struck down the UK government’s decision to allow users to lawfully make copies of content that they have purchased for personal use, given the absence of a compulsory levy to compensate copyright owners for the “harm” that they suffer from such copying. The government’s choices are now to remove the private copying exception—making personal copying illegal again, or to supply additional evidence that copyright owners suffer no or minimal “harm” from personal copying, or else to begin imposing a new tax on users to compensate the industry for that “harm”.

You should move to South Africa, the government is so corrupt & primitive here that nobody gives a crap... Digitally you can do what you want.

But I agree with ZetZet, nobody really uses CD's anymore except for a few diehards.

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Looks like there's a loophole in there. You're not allowed to MAKE a copy of content you own, but the law doesn't mention HAVING a copy.

Find someone who lives in a country where it's allowed, send him a bunch of CDs and a large enough USB stick and let him rip them and send them back together with the files. Or rip them yourselves while on vacation.

EDIT : actually ... no need to really DO this, you can just TELL them you did it that way.

I don't use CD's anymore too, but I feel like just accepting this and thinking "well I don't use CD's anyways" is a bad thing, since this is certainly not the last way they will try to control citizens. 

And this is probably not the last way record labels will try to extort more money from you (and still complain about piracy)
