What to upgrade to?

Budget (including currency): 300 USD (BWP 4500)

Country: Botswana

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: CoD, Forza, Tekken

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Current Build:

  i7-4790

  5600xt

  16gb ddr3

In about 3 months, I would like to get a new processor. This would mean getting new memory and a new board. At this point, I see two options. Buy used or get something new.

If used it'd be a 2700x/3700x with a b450

If new it'd be a 12100f with a b660

Of course much can change but that's what the budget would allow for. With my location, the only option is Amazon ot Ebay. So is this alright or are there better deals out there (Marketplace isn't really all that good in my area)

I would get the 3700x, because it had double the cores, even tho its slightly worse in gaming. You will be then able to upgrade to the 5800X3D, which will probably be really cheap used in a few years

Honestly, Id say get the 12100f with the b660, since the performance difference from a 12100f and a 3700x is not that big, even if the 3700x has more cores. You can upgrade to something like a 13700kf in the future, which is a lot better than a 5800x3d. The b660 board will also have a lot better features than the b450 board, such as pcie 4.0.

pricing?

and what specific mobos? if its a trash lowend b660 vs a midranger b450 then the b450 would be better

assuming amd is cheaper go for am4 but instead of a 3700x look for a 3600(x) or 5600(x) instead, singlethread wont be as good as the 12100 but for games thatll use more than 4 cores even the 3600 may pull ahead

heres a comparison which has the 3600 5600x 12100 and 12400

If it's amd, the processors (used) are about 100. I could also potentially go for the 5600g but I don't think the performance difference is all that much. Used B450 boards aren't prices all that bad but it's the shipping that kills it
