Avast has a poor definition database. Way too many false positives, and when I say way to many, I mean...

WAY TOO MANY!

Tho it is still a decent antivirus for free. It will help keep you safe since it goes off the wall even for running notepad (sarcasm).

What settings are you running? I'll try to replicate it...

I've been on avast for a long time now, nothing got past it (+common sense)... As for false positives, I've seen some, but they're usually something dealing with keygens and stuff which I can work around...

As for AVG, I can't recommend it since I've seen too many computers with the latest AVG and a freaking self-replicating VBS script (forgot the name, too busy dealing with it)...

I only use Malwarebytes if I need that much extra protection...

McAffee Stinger (on a physically write-protected drive) for post-infection scans...

AVG Free and Malwarebytes (use to use free, but bought a full copy). They, along with my common sense, keep me clean and happy. Been using that combo for years.

Never say it's not broken. Everything is broken. Why? Because everything needs MOAR POWA!

If you're looking for the safest free antivirus, Avira is the best there is right now.

Tho the really best antivirus you can use is Linux. Just get away from the insecure platform that is known as Windows.

I don't use Avast due to my heavy development work style on the computer. It's bad enough that the compiler I use likes to generate false positives (doesn't with Malwarebytes Pro).

in my experience, avast is a resource hog and avg doesnt catch anything except the programs that i already know register as viruses.

so far ive had no noticeable issues with Comodo, Nod32, or microsofts security essentials

I use kaspersky but, only because my Dad paid for it.

Really I don't find that you need anything more than a scan with malware bytes every so often and general sense when using your computer.

So I spelt something wrong in my post... I don't care I don't read through what I write and I type very quickly.

Intel 3770k stock, MSI Z77A-GD65, MSI GTX 760, Corsair Vengence DDR3 1600Mhz 16Gb, Corsair RM 550W, Samsung 830 256Gb, some random hdds.

I use Windows Defender (Win 8.1) and just added MalwareBytes to my computer for some extra safety. Not that I've ever had a problem with Defender running solo.
