Which GPU should I choose?

I can get a RX 6650 XT for an extra $20, should I snatch it or no?

I'd suggested the RX 6600 as I was trying to keep within that 500W PSU requirement, but IF you're willing to kick up your PSU to a decent 650W PSU, sure, the RX 6650XT is a fair bit faster than the RX 6600. Do wait for more input on the PSU though....

Edit - Just checked, the RX 6650XT is 25% faster than the RX 6600, so yeah, a significant bump in performance.

I'm planning to upgrade from integrated graphics to a dedicated GPU.

Should I get a RX 5500 XT (8GB) or a RX 6500 XT (4GB)? I don't know which one to get.

What CPU are you using it with and what games are you trying to play with it?

In most cases though, the 6500 XT and 5500 XT perform within a few percent of each other, and the 5500 XT isn't as easily crippled by PCIe bandwidth and memory capacity, so the 5500 XT is the better pick between the two.

There are almost certainly better GPUs you could pick from though, what's your budget?

Yep, you'd be better served by furnishing us with your system specs. the kind of games and resolution you wanna play at, and your budget. I'd not suggest those two low end AMD cards, or any low end nVidia cards for the matter, even for casual gaming.....unless there's a hard budget line/constraint that is.

CPU: Ryzen 5 5500 (costs the same as a 3600 rn so i thought id snatch it)

MOBO: MSI B450M-A PRO MAX II

RAM: Silicon Power GAMING 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16

STORAGE: Crucial P3 Plus 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4

PSU: EVGA 500 W1 500 W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply

the gpu is undecided

I intend to play mostly Destiny 2, Risk of Rain 2, KSP, City Skylines (2 would be horrifying) and War Thunder at 1080p with 75+hz (Friend is getting me a monitor)

I am also going to be using Unity's 2D game development as well as dabbing a little bit into Unity's 3D game development and maybe Unreal Engine 5 (if possible)

I also have a extreme budget of $540

hope this helps

In this case, I'd say the RX 6750 XT would be a good choice, but the 500W PSU you have now is most likely not up to the challenge of powering an RX 6750 XT stably. I'd suggest a PSU upgrade to a 650W to 750W PSU. Gold or Bronze certified from eVGA/Corsair/Seasonic/Enermax/etc....I think FSP is a pretty decent brand as well, though it's been a while since I'd looked in PSUs. A decent - good 650W to 750W PSU should not cost you more than 100, more like perhaps 60USD to 90USD.   I'd suggest getting higher wattage and trusted PSU for future upgradeability.

As you can see from the specs listed in my sig, I have a 1kW PSU for my main rig, and a 1.5kW PSU in my 2nd rig, more than enough power to add more components and upgrade my GPU should I want to, without the worry of my PSU being the limiting factor due to lack of power.

Don't get this PSU, it's terrible. A PSU is the one component you can't afford to cheap out on, especially since half decent units really don't cost that much more.

How much are you spending on everything else, or how much do you have left for the GPU?

My philosophy when it comes to PSU is, buy the PSU that is at least a notch above your present need, like IF 650W is the recommended, I'd aim for a 750W PSU or higher. My HX1000 Plat went from an R9 3900X + RX VEGA 64 to an R9 5900X + RX 7900 XTX and didn't break a sweat, likewise, the 1500W Enermax PSU in my 2nd rig is ready for any GPU upgrade...

I can spend $50-60 on a PSU and still have enough for the GPU

I have around $150 for the GPU (I found some cheap rx 5500 xt )

Again, depends on your budget, but as you  had mentioned $540, I'm basing my answer on this. I'd suggest a better PSU, Bronze or better yet, Gold certified PSU. There's a used BeQuiet! 650W PSU at Amazon for ~62USD, BeQuiet! is great, but that it is used and its unknown age are of concern. There's also a Corsair CX650 Bronze certified unit at 65USD, but it's been a while since I'd delved into PSU, the CX series is the weakest among Corsair series of PSU, but I think it should be okay.

Just checked on the system requirement for some of the games you're looking at, and just realized they're not GPU intensive, so perhaps a simple GPU upgrade would do, and a less powerful one at that. The RX 6600 8GB is a better option to say, competitively priced nVidia options which included GTX 1660 Super, and more expensive RTX 3050. You can find an RX 6600 at BB for 190USD:

I believe an RX 6600 requires a 500W PSU, though I can't say for sure....but as long as you don't overclock, or have too many other components that suck up juice, you should be okay.....worse case scenario, a change to a 600-650W PSU.

Wait for someone else more savvy about PSUs, I ain't too familiar with eVGA PSUs, I believe their 'Supernova' line is their best or flagship range. But barring any reported or known defect(s), it should be more than sufficient. The other PSU I had in mind is the Corsair CX650 PSU at 65USD IIRC, but then, like the PSU you're looking at, the CX series from Corsair is their weakest line of PSUs, so I can't say as I've not looked in Corsair PSUs for a long time now....ever since I'd gotten the HX1000 in my main rig back in 2019.

The RX 6600 should be able to handle the games you wanna play at highest setting (only IF VRAM isn't chewed up by the game) but with 8GB, it should suffice for most games at 1080P with the exception of a handful of games (AAA titles I think) that chew up VRAM even at 1080P. Honestly, the RX 6600 should be the best sub-200USD card around, outperforms the GTX 1660 Super (RX 6600 is 35% faster) and RTX 3050 (the RX 6600 is 26% faster according to TPU) at similar ingame setting and resolution.

With the RX 6600, you'll have extra performance to tinker with higher ingame setting.....as for CPU, your R5 5500 6C/12T CPU should be good for all modern titles.

Alright then. I already chose to use a 650W power supply so I guess I'll take it

Good luck with your upgrade! BTW, IF you're swapping out GPUs, remember to run DDU and completely remove all traces of previous driver (you can either disconnect from the net after running DDU, before restarting, or use the DDU settings to prevent Windows from downloading some old driver that Windows 'decided' is the 'best driver). AMD GPUs can be a little finicky about driver install, so IF you're not sure, do come back here and ask for advice or steps to be taken.
