Corsair 200R Front Bezel Mod

ObilvionNizer

Hey Everyone,

I'm going to be modding the front of my Corsair 200R.

My Plan is to remove the drive bays and make the panel flush.

What I will be using is

  • Corsair 200R Front Panel (Already have but will be purchasing a spare)
  • Plastic Epoxy
  • Plastic Filler
  • Sand Paper (240 grit, 320 grit, 400 grit and 600 grit)
  • Plastic Primer
  • Matt Black Paint
  • Satin Lacquer
  • Silver Corsair Decal

So far all items except the lacquer has been purchased. I am just awaiting the arrival of the items. I will update once all the items have arrived

UPDATE: PREP 2

I used the Epoxy to stick the slot covers to the panel and each other.

Spoiler

IMAG0637.jpg

After the epoxy had set I sanded the case down before applying the Filler.

Once the extra epoxy had been removed by the sand paper i then started to cover from the top of the drive bays to the bottom with Filler.

Spoiler

IMAG0638.jpg

This picture is after sanding with 240 grit and 320 grit.

After sanding the filler I checked for any gaps or sections that needed level out. Any sections I found had been filled and leveled.

Spoiler

IMAG0639.jpg

This was after I leveled out the filler.

Once all was leveled then I then started to Sand the filler with 400 grit. Once I was Satisfied with the 400 grit result I then began sanding the entire panel with 600 grit.

Spoiler

IMAG0640.jpg

This is after I completed the final sanding with the 600 grit and start cleaning with a paint prep wipe.

Now that the panel has dried after being cleaned with the paint prep wipe, it is now ready for Paint.

UPDATE: LACQUER

Check on the Panel after letting the paint cure for 24 hours. I look great so i decided to check out how the Decal would look on the case and decide if I was going to just use the logo or the logo and text.

Spoiler

IMAG0655.jpg

So I applied coats 1 and 2.

Spoiler

IMAG0656.jpg

After coat 2

I decided i would use the whole decal so i placed it on after the second coat.

Spoiler

IMAG0657.jpg

Picture after decal applied then third coat applied.

I will be checking on the panel today when I finish work at 5 so that allowed it enough time to cure.

UPDATE

Ok so after leaving the lacquer 48 hours to cure I went out tonight when i got home from work to check the panel to find the the panel had turned grey. It appears that the satin lacquer had faded the paint.

So i spent 2 hours tonight sanding, prepimg and Priming the panel again. So now i have left the panel to cure until i finish tomorrow. When i get in from work I will then paint then paint the panel and wait until the new decal comes before attaching it to the case.

Nice work and great updates Epoxy is always a good choice but I really like using #16 cement for plastics including ABS and acrylic

http://amzn.to/2kNQxPv

Thanks.

I will check out the cement when I plan my next mod.  I only used the epoxy because i bought all the stuff from local stores minus the bezal and decal. I got the epoxy from the local hardware store and it was the cheapest option i could find. but I think the cement would of been better.

I should be providing an update later depending on how the new coats have cured.
