What's a tech term you hate?

da na

people specifying theirs psus as "Corsair 600w" or "EVGA 80+gold" or "EVGA 600W 80+gold" Like cmon. how many different and meh EVGA 80+gold psus are out there? or how many Corsair psus with wattage of 600?

Or people recommending Psus by only the effiency. Because everyone knows effiency = quality right? The whole Psu subforum is full of this. Luckily I am almost always late so I do not have to explain why effiency is not quality, since there are other people to do that before me. It just triggers me everytime I see this BS.

It is a bit like saying Ford 6 cylinder.  Ford made a LOT of different kinds of 6 cylinders.  There’s straight 6 slant 6 and v6 just to name a few and we haven’t even gotten into things like carburetor and valves.  Needs more specificity

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Also in general when people are having problems they do not give any relevant info just "help plz" like what are we supposed to do? teleport to his house and start fixing stuff?

And when they give theirs specs they are like " i5, 8gb, 500g hdd, 500w psu" Well that helped a lot!

And when they do not like the answers we gave they say "Thanks for no help". Well I personally put as much effort to my answer as the guy to his question.

This. But not exactly. WhatsApp was founded by a guy who values privacy above all else (still to this day). After he sold WA to facebook he was in constant strife with them about privacy issues and and data collection. After a couple of years of fighting battles he couldn't win he left the company.

You have to be a bit thick to sell anything you create to Facebook if you value privacy...

By the way, my desktop is a docked laptop. Get over it, No seriously, I have an exterrnal monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset, ethernet and cooling fans all connected. Using it feels no different to a desktop, it works for several hours if the power goes out, and disconnecting just a few cables gives me something I can take on the go. There's enough power for all games I play and it even copes with basic (and some not-so-basic) video editing. Give it a go - you might just love it.

Impossible because DDR3's maximum amount of memory is 64.

And in any case, the compatibility would be fucked.

When people refer to Xbox GPU. No, they're not talking about graphics card. Coincidentally Xbox's GPU stands for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

I digress reading it as a PC guy who thinks they're referring to GPU's instead.

I did not go through all 13 pages because screw that

"Good Airflow" in reference to PC cases and case fans. "The recommended case must have good airflow" yet makes no mention of what their system build is, and wants a glass fronted case because "mesh looks bad"

"Vr Ready" because GPU's as low as a GTX1060 have been classified as "VR Ready" for five years now, even though most will tell you that you need way more power to drive it well

USB "3.2 Gen #".... Just keep them 3.0, 3.1 and 3.2

Reminds me of the whole Xbox one naming convention. Person walks into store, asks for an xbox one, are they talking about original xbox, or the new xbox one.

If you think about it most smartphones aren't made for privacy so if you get one you can go ahead and use whatsapp and it wouldn't make it a worse experience for you tbh.

Privacy or remaining as a noname anon on the net requires way more than a device or avoiding X or Y social network.

Let's say I own a safe phone, talk through signal connected to a VPN and a Tor relay to tell a friend: "I'm pregnant", he then talks to someone else over the same platform until the message hits someone else and decides to use whatsapp to contact his mom and tell her, his mom then tells my aunt Patricia using wechat and Patricia decides to post the news on instagram and facebook. Now not only all of China knows I'm pregnant, but also a couple hundred more people.

I'm not pregnant and don't have an aunt named Patricia, 'tis a mere demonstration on how one's privacy isn't always one's responsibility.

Myself I wouldn’t take a cookie from Putin. Man has a rep for poisoning people. Or having the shot, or strangled, or whatever.  All of the above really.

Here’s one that may not have gotten mentioned yet (unless it has) “turbo”.  Only ICE  engines (yes I know that’s redundant.  It’s the term that is used though.  Same as with SSD drive.  Acronyms suck) have actual turbos.  It seems to be used as a word that means rather generically “go faster”.  It rarely comes up anymore.  Something justifiably dying.
