What's a tech term you hate?

Hashtags is just a cringe term overall, but it's especially bad IMO when people refer to this symbol, #, in a non-social-media context (such as in a phone number, sharp symbols in music etc) as a hashtag.

When someone says the word hashtag in an IRL conversation it makes my blood curl. The same goes when someone says LOL out loud. Both of them are murder inducing.

If anything, GNOME 2 was a cheap MacOS knockoff. Apple’s been using more or less the same desktop paradigm since the early 80s.

The problem is the thing was never really adequately named.  Asperand  is barely even a recognized word.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Asperand refers to the @-symbol.

And now a word from our sponsor: 💩

They used that on Cobra Kai a few times... I think Johnny Lawrence said something like "Hashbrown that" and I was just like

Yeah, but all of those have various levels of problems. @&#, all of em.  Ampersand is the least confusing one that way.

I would sauté it then I suppose, which likely isn’t what would be wanted.

Asperand does not exist. (at least its not in the dictionary, it is however used exactly like this but meaning the @ sign)
But the ampersand is just the and symbol;  🙴, 🙵🙲, 🙳,

The # is called the Number sign or Sharp sign. Or equal & parallel sign if you're more mathematical. 🙂

If you try and correct people make sure its done right and you show some evidence making it easier to believe. (or to fact check, as no-one including me is infallible.)

And here I thought we called that the "ad symbol", since @ is literally just a conglomeration of the letters A and D...but idk.  I guess somewhere between AD and greek AE, someone split the difference at came up with AT.
