You want one cheap? I’ve got a terrific one. 30” it’s huge and very high res for its time.  It’s even supposed to do 144hz though I’ve never tried.  I can’t make it work with win10 anymore.  ‘S a white elephant to me. It’s actually bigger than 1440p.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

It might. It not working and me not being able to make it work are not necessarily the same thing.  My best guess is that it’s a driver issue.  The generic win8.1 “LG” driver worked with it but apparently the win10 driver doesn’t and when I updated the old driver got erased.  If I could make the thing go I’d still be using it.

p.s for those looking for solutions to making a  Korean grey market monitor work, I ran into one scary sounding one.  A lot of them came across during the era of bad lead free solder and more than a few have a tin whisker problems.  That one is a somewhat evil nightmare to fix. I know that’s not the problem with mine because I can actually get it to display, just only in “generic” mode, which is worse than useless.

Here's what it looks like in my original post

(also, excuse the colors but LTT website and HDR don't go together well).

The 8 Bit Guy precisely said that until windows 95 (what became the real revolution of Personal Computers, and massive adoption of computers by "average" people) the only people who called Tech Support were people who already knew (mostly) everything with Computers and had a very serious issue (like a Virus) would call, and they already knew most of the terminology, also DOS being massively popular, terminals/commands were something even normal PC users (from before 95) with no real tech knowledge, knew how to use.

And then after 95, you had people say:

Tech Support: Is your mouse plugged in?

Customer AKA Granny: My mouse?

Tech Support: The rectangular plastic piece that has 2 buttons on it

Customer: Oh i thought that was (something like) a sewing machine pedal.

So PC tech support became Mac tech support.

"Gamer"- it should be a neutral word but now denotes a commodity that is mined for value with...

"micro-transactions"- which is a word we use because scraping for pennies used to be a sign of debased circumstances but now is considered good business. So we need a smart sounding polysyllabic word for the financial equivalent of  flipping over couch cushions while using so much energy to do it.

Yeah, tech support is annoying af sometimes, misused terms and assumptions on how things works (instead of actually knowing how it works) makes things so freaking hard !

Corp side of things is when you get a normie in charge of the IT department ... it's often why IT gets understaffed and underfunded, because the people in charge don't know how it works and they have skewed expectations.

It's unmistakable terminology which is why it was used.

I know we are now supposed to "officially" use pin and socket but those can still lead to confusion.

"BBROYGBVGW"- If male/female connectors winds people up, the the mnemonic I was taught for resistor colour codes would send them into apoplectic fits.

Well then… I was curious what the mnemonic was and looked it up, they all seemed fairly normal until I came across one that ends in “but Violet gives willingly”, I have a feeling thats the one you are talking about. Not sure what I was expecting, but it sure wasn’t that… damn…

The 'B' stands for 'because, and the 'V" doesn't stand for Violet.

It’s a hundred years or more old, so probably.  Language can change very slowly. I used to quote as example “taint” which is a sports term leftover from jousting.  There are apparently words left over from Roman gladiatorial stuff though.  So a solid couple thousand years.  A better term set would be needed though, and it would have to be easier to use to wind up in vernacular.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.
