Depending on where you buy said ring guess and most places will size it for free after.

you can use your own hand as a judge smaller or bigger the. Yours etc etc

I actually saw something from reddit about this about a week ago. If I can find it i will link it but the two I remember are someone touching everyone’s finger to find one that felt like it is about the same size (not very plausible now) and a jeweler saying that the majority of times (I think 7 or 8 out of 10), it is the same as their shoe size.

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

Quote or tag me so I can see your response

Jewelers have tools that help find ring size. If you take any kind of measurement they should be able to help. Circunference is the easiest.

A few ways to do that:

- Ask the person's relatives for a ring they own and take it to the jeweler

- If you happen to sleep together, use a ribbon around their finger to measure its circunference while the person is asleep.

- Get a toy that has a plastic ring, put it on any finger that fits on your hand, and say jokingly "hey, look how pretty this is! wanna try it?" or something like that. See if it fits or nearly fits on any fingers. If it nearly fits you can then size up or down.

Don't know but wouldn't the height of a person give a estimate of their ring size.

I know this won't answer your question but I'm curious. Why do you want to know her ring size?

If you by "diameter pi" mean diameter * pi then yes that works for rings. I mean, it is the formula for calculating circumference after all.

Not sure how that would help you here though, since you probably don't know the diameter of her finger either. Plus, measuring that is way harder than just measuring around her finger with something like a piece of string.

That's humbug. Most women have ring sizes somewhere around 5-6 (US sizes). Not many people have that small feet.

im planning to ask the question (engagment) in a few months and im talking about the diameter of the finger would that work to find the circumference since fingers are not really perfectly round

When you lock hands with that person, compare the size of their fingers with yours (without being too obvious about it... can be while you're doing the deed, hug them close but put your head is on the side, looking at your interlocking hands....). It doesn't need to be 100% accurate, it can usually be resized for free anyway.

It's not perfect, but you'll at least know how big their fingers are compared to yours and whether or not you have one that's relatively close to their ring finger.

Another way is to just buy a "joke ring", like one of those mood rings and have them try it out. Plenty of ways.

Or... You could always just propose with an onion ring and bring them to the jeweler so they can pick the ring they want and have it sized right then and there.

Oh I see.

Even though fingers aren't perfect circles, rings are, and it's ring size you're after.

Make sure the jeweler you're buying from does free resizing. A lot of them do but not 100% of them.

Good luck! Hope she says yes.

Resizing rings is pretty easy for a jeweler. Metal is squishy if you bang on it.  Jewelers do this sort of thing a lot, so I wouldn’t worry about it overmuch.  The shoe size thing will get it close enough and resizing can always be done later if needed.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

The shoe thing is complete BS though.

Like I said, the average woman have a ring size of between 5 and 6 (US size). That is waaaay smaller than the average shoe size.

I have seen some posts talking about "shoe size divided by 2 and then add 3" which sounds a bit more believable, but even then it just feels like guesswork or that it will be roughly in the neighbor of a size 6 (which is the standard ring size).

Just look at this thread if you want to see how far off this estimate is most of the time:

My answer to your question depends on how comfortable you are being arrested and spending some time in the lock up with a rather large man who keeps calling you, "Susan."

Order large. It's the gesture that's important, not the immediate ring fitment. You can get it sized properly after. The jewelry store can suggest a size that's common if they have normal sized fingers. If they're chubbier or extremely thin, mention that to them.
