LTT Official Folding Month 2020!!!

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

Luckily when I said it was almost done, I really meant it.

For the last time in 2020, ladles and gentlespoons, here a blog post.

And with that said, it's a wrap! Thank you for everyone getting involved, if you'd like to continue talking about folding why not head over to The Folding Community Board

So far haven't had any issues getting work units (GPU).

Thanks @yaboistar for letting me pass

@Scarfy I would like to request you stay at least 600,000 to 6,000,000 away for safety...same goes for you @d0ks

Soooo close , i can feel the 30th spot :) . But let's see if I can keep this pace, as this morning my 1080 Ti started making a weird high pitched hissing sound. The strange part is that it makes this sound only when it's folding :( , under furmark and gaming the card makes no sound. I hope it doesn't die on me.

Are you running the stock WU pool?

I'm on beta. It got a WU after 10 minutes or so and has been running nicely since, even though looking at the logs it did need 2-4 tries before getting a WU each time.

Is anyone else having issues or have a fix for getting CPU WUs? I can consistently get GPU WUs but for the past day and half have gotten no CPU WUs. Have tried stopping and starting the F@H client, finishing and restarting WUs, and restarting pc, all my settings look right I just can't pull CPU WUs anymore... log appears that the client is trying but failing to receive any. I'm not set to work on idle but have gone through trying each power level to no difference. any tips for this?

Judging by the previous few replies, there aren't enough CPU work units to go around. Just need to wait until more CPU WUs are added.

Can confirm it's the Monday morning of a folding event.

GPU & CPU work units are available, but take multiple tries to get even with a babysitter script on machines.

This is leading to cold slots on some of my machines for 5-10 minutes.

But if past events are any indicator, the F@H team will start dumping collection servers, and loading work servers as the work week starts after thinking they left us enough to do over the weekend, and we should be doing better by EOD.

How good of hardware would you need to qualify in the first round? Also, can you run this as a stress-test on your system to see how good airflow is?

You'd need a system that functions, more or less.  Though sign-ups are closed for this round, so you can only participate in spirit.

I would not use this as a stress test.  It'll definitely tax your cooling system, but using it to tune your system will be sketchy, especially this time of year.  The workload comes in fits and bursts and may not be available at all.

Not sure what's up maybe F@H doesn't like you as I just got a WU for my Ryzen, either that or they added more in which case...

Get them while they are around, limited stock!

My 3900x has been idled for periods of half an hour or more since last night, but its on eco mode so its not a huge loss (effectively nullified by the cuda boost wrt ppd)

It's completely a limited stock issue.

They need time to create / add work units and unload collection servers.

So if you're un-lucky your work server runs dry, client will retry to get work... then timeout... then perhaps try another work server... etc. etc.  meanwhile... someone else will then say "I just got one from the work server you said was empty" and it's almost 100% they are adding work to the server and luck of the draw who got it.

Yea, I only turned mine on to see if there was actually any WUs out there to be had (3800x), while I don't have the same issues with mine, I just don't want to risk overheating my system since it's still technically in the building stage lol, which I hope to fix this week.

Most likely, the new batch that I likely got is about the right time from when they get back in on a Monday to delivery and after having their morning shot of coffee spiked with rum 😉 Or is it rum spiked with coffee I forget now.

That depends on the information you seek. If you want generic information Windows Task Manager can give you that, PPD from folding Advanced Control will display that, specific temps there is HWMonitor, or your cpu/gpu overclocking program that can give you that information.

They put those in to offset every time you get a 16921 which tanks the PPD on my cards ;)

16918 is kryptonite on AMD cards, feel like thats just how cancer simulations go in general.

Same, it's the highs and lows of watching your overall PPD swing wildly depending on when you look.
