LTT Official Folding Month 2020!!!

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

Luckily when I said it was almost done, I really meant it.

For the last time in 2020, ladles and gentlespoons, here a blog post.

And with that said, it's a wrap! Thank you for everyone getting involved, if you'd like to continue talking about folding why not head over to The Folding Community Board

I would like to introduce my dedicated addition to my Folding@Home workload, nicknamed Ugly Duckling. This is a compilation of mismatched parts I have available and will be upgraded to more proper hardware in the future. I will note that the PSU is brand new, never skimp out on that. For extra cringe, that is an Intel DQ45CB LGA775 board with an E8400, 8GB DDR2 RAM, with 3 mismatched AMD graphics cards. The AMD HD 6800 is not folding so I'm assuming it is no longer supported. This not doing nearly as good as my two p106-100 mining GPUs in my main rig but every little bit helps.

UglyDuckling.thumb.jpg.5c669c4b9a28d0567f46d25d201104d1.jpg

I also have a E8400 system going with a GeForce 210 but that card is also not supported.

@LAR_Systems where is that neat graph coming from ? Is that a new feature you are going to be releasing soon ?

@cbigfoot is right, It's the release candidate for the next version for F@H in the dark.

Adding the ability to toggle viewing a history chart of the current work unit in the slot so you can benchmark better.

The sawtooth pattern is generally the different folds in the work unit, some higher, some lower so as an educational tool as to how the PPD changes throughout a work unit in part and overall I thought this was useful.

The charts are real time update as well for those wanting to see how watching 4k YouTube or tweaking clock settings impacts the folding patter on their machine.

And before someone points out 3D GPU usage.   You can pop open the charts to see them when you want... and it uses about as much GPU 3D rendering power as the default F@H clients GIFs to display them.   Then you can close them for "headless" style view of just the slot basics which has no 3D accelerated animation so 3D usage on the GPU is only whatever windows / other stuff using it is doing.

Oh yeah... and I added total PPD to the web client for multi slot machines, cause it just makes sense.

Condensed Non 3D mode:

image.png.b2d257773d31f7591a721b2dfc7891f3.png

Expanded Charts Mode:
Look at the PPD drop you can see on the 2080 Super from when I was not using the system, then started doing stuff on it at around 55% completion.

image.png.e5366eb2451175ed3469dd092bfd74fc.png

Oh yeah... and I'm in beta on a per CPU thread score for CPU folders to have rankings and benchmarks as well.

In final testing now, hopefully will be pushing to google for approval early this week.

Not necessarily.

This is the base extension branch and default skin that all non LTT team users would see.

When I'm done all testing I have to update the LTT skin to include changes / new elements.

So you will expect to see the LTT orange, header, logo, and shirt style folding indicators back.   But... making the exec decision that the shirt pattern will not animate to save 3D render overhead.

The charts, slot level info values etc. all make it really easy to see if a slot is running or not compared to the default client which requires you to click on a slot to see info.

It was only even intended for new folders to see the slots working or not.

So new approach makes more sense, people that don't mind the overhead can leave charting open and at least the animation overhead is doing something useful compared to the GIFs ;)

Try restarting client or PC, and then try pausing and resuming the client for few times each 5min. If that doesn't work, try changing network or updating/downgrading client version.

Well, I now got my dad to get a computer running for me!😆

He got a 4 core mac mini that he hasn't used much yet, and I was telling him about this and he was like "There's a computer in there (the office) that isn't used a whole lot yet (he is finishing getting data off of some of our older computers still) and you can put it on that as long as you show me how to control it so I can shut it off if I need to." So it is set to 3 cores to keep the temps relatively under control (about 80 degrees Celsius) getting me another about 30K PPD!
