LTT Official Folding Month 2020!!!

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

Luckily when I said it was almost done, I really meant it.

For the last time in 2020, ladles and gentlespoons, here a blog post.

And with that said, it's a wrap! Thank you for everyone getting involved, if you'd like to continue talking about folding why not head over to The Folding Community Board

Looks like a new CPU core is out in the wild havent seen A8 Before

I've seen A8 pop up early september and it drops my 3900x down a third of its PPD.

Quote

This new CPU FahCore_a8 updates the FahCore from GROMACS 5 (FahCore_a7) to GROMACS 2020. This will provide substantial gains in efficiency of WU production! Specifically, we have been observing that FahCore_a8 runs noticeably faster than FahCore_a7; in tests, FahCore_a8 runs about 50% faster on recent CPUs that support AVX2 and FMA, and still 5-15% on older ones, with the bigger boosts seen in Windows.

Never say Never, I did 🤣. However yes I agree about their cases, just did a build in the new S100 and it was very easy going, build quality was good and it was great to work in (ended up going with a corsair kit for the fans). For this system I got a really good deal on the AIO (360mm rad for $130 Complete with RGB-PWM fans and controller) and the old school riing single color fans have been fine. My goal when I did the original build around April of last year, was to spend the maximum amount of money on the core components and switch out the fans later on . As this is the first fan to die since then with 24/7 operation I'm going to hold off a little longer before spending the money on new fans and cooling solution. Likely going to do a custom loop as the Core X71 case I went with has PLENTY of room for it, Just want to move my Plex drives to an external NAS first.

Well, it hasn't happened to me yet and I've been dealing with pc parts since windows 98 times 😜

For my system I was trying to find a Thermaltake case that was within my needs which includes 1 5.25 drive bay (blurays mostly) and at least 4 3.5 for mostly games along with looking nice. It didn't exist anywhere at time of building so I ended up getting the Cosmos II which had everything I wanted and more lol. I bought all fans needed for the computer so I don't have to deal with it again afterwards, myself I've had 2-3 thermaltake fans die and one deep cool, plus countless prebuilts (not mine, others) and the BFG 210 fan. Tho I tend to run my computer 24/7, so they all likely outdid any warranty considering my Overseer is over 7 years old 🤣

Proof is in my oldest HDD my original steam games drive: 41,582 hours, which was bought in April 2013 and I think after the case(might still have the NCIX receipt). Back then I didn't run my computer 24/7 like I do now.

I think I have you beat, My first build was in mid nineties with an AMD K5 133mhz 586 with a 4mb S3 virge 3D accelerator. I think the OS was Windows 95 Plus. I've been gaming since DOS times....Tandy 1000SX Trident was my first system (hand me down, I'm not THAT old lol). Thermaltake used to be the name in cooling, back in the late 90's and early 00' the volcano CPU coolers were the best, loud as a hurricane but cooled ANYTHING. The company is a shell of itself compared to back then, they still have decent innovative designs and ideas but I feel like they just never stick the landing when it comes to final implementation and development.

Seems like there is a lack of work units available for CPU at the moment. I'm hoping that there are more soon. (we seem to have dried them all up).  ooops. trust our folding month to dry them up.

Keep on folding guys.
