LTT Official Folding Month 2020!!!

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

Luckily when I said it was almost done, I really meant it.

For the last time in 2020, ladles and gentlespoons, here a blog post.

And with that said, it's a wrap! Thank you for everyone getting involved, if you'd like to continue talking about folding why not head over to The Folding Community Board

"solved" or has it just forgotten those WU's are there and finished now?

solved as in client sent WU's to the collection servers.

2 minutes ago, yaboistar said:

seriously, just let the client manage WU's and if they're still there after the expiry date of the WU you can go in and delete them

the thing i haven't specified was that i've installed the alternative version of the client, 7.6.20 and apparently it bugged out. so i reverted to 7.6.13 and it just sent the units as soon as i hit "fold"

Oh Oh we're all in trouble now @Macaw2000 and his army has just turned up in the stats.

Hah! I just have a tiny cluster running. I could release a full army of mercenaries but I am neck deep in another compute project that has my time and budget.

No release them that would knock @Den-Fi down to 3rd place. 😉

Which instance type are you running?  g4dn.xlarge looked like the best bang for the buck and it never goes below 15 cents.

Yes g4dn.xlarge. My clusters look for price drops in all regions. Mumbai, for example, gets cheap on the weekends

Unfortunately you have to use AWS fairly regularly or else they'll keep limiting you to one spot request at a time.  I specifically got the limit increased in March or April this year and when I fired things back up this year, I was back down to 1 spot instance at a time.  That means you can only have 1 instance running at a decent price.

Further, AWS doesn't offer any decent instances with a lot of GPUs.  You can get instances with 4 or 8 GPUs, but they both cost over a dollar per hour (the biggest one has actually surged to over $7 per hour this past week), versus the 12-15 cents you get for the single GPU.

Hmm, I seem to be getting significantly more PPD than in earlier events. Did FAH change how they're calculating the points or something?

Nope, but they did get CUDA support for team green cards

If you are using Nvidia cards you should have had a 30%-40% boost in points.

Add the laptop on low priority too for a few random bonus points.  Keep a few threads free so you won't notice much while doing other basic work.

My laptop only has a few threads... It has a 2 core 4 thread CPU. I have it folding on full but with minimum priority and it seems to work fine.

I haven't been having any WU Server issues. Those of you who are: Where are you at on the globe? Did you update to that new client version?

So, between the CUDA upgrade, and me finally realizing that the power limit slider on afterburner can go waay down without that big of a speed hit, looks like I'll be able to sleep right next to an active 3M PPD machine

Awesome

Not to worry, my finger took the brunt of it. I was dusting out the system and my middle finger got a little too close to one of my radiator fans.....at 1630 RPM 😵. Even at that speed I have clipped fans like that millions of times before in my 25+ years of building systems and I have NEVER had one of the blades snap off like that before. Luckily it was on the cold side of the rad so it should be fine while I wait for the replacement.

Do as I say and not as I do kids....NEVER clean your system while its running (even if you are folding and didn't want to drop and PPD).

System kind of looks like the kid that lost one of their front teeth at a hockey game.
