Firefox with ublock origin as minimum, I also block trackers. Chrome is for backup use only.

If you block the ad, the view doesn't count and the site doesn't get paid.  It is explicitly stealing, since you're using the site without offering the funding it needs to keep running.  Sites frequently have to factor ad blocking into their revenue models because it does, in fact, hurt their bottom line.

 

Also, you can't even get your metaphors right.  In your example, the TV is still on -- the ad is still playing, you're just not paying attention to it.  What you're actually doing with your blocker is turning the TV off for the exact duration of every commercial break... and yet you still expect the channel to keep airing the show out of a sense of charity.

I use Privacy Badger to block trackers on webpages. It blocks a LOT. Privacy Badger is developed by Electronic Frontier Foundation, which is a nonprofit civil liberties organization focused on digital rights.

 

Here's one of the more extreme examples of trackers on a webpage that I've noticed:

 

Right now, it detects only a single tracker for LTT, which is "z-na.amazon-adsystem.com".

 

Edit: Now it detects "stats.g.doubleclick.net" as well.

Just destroy all electronics in your house and they cant track you. Also dont use a credit card or debit card or any other type of currency with your name attached to it. Make sure to always change your appearance regularly with fake wings and vastly different attire along with accent and maybe you can stop people from tracking you.

Chromium doesn't mean Chrome tho! Yes, it's helping Google's dominance by adding up to its engine use (and webpage compatibility with it), but isn't Chrome. Parts of it still connect to Google, like in Brave and Firefox do (Google's Safe Browsing thingie, maybe spell checking too), but the rest of Google shit is not there.

Chromium =/= Chrome These two are NOT the same thing. How Chrome handles some things is not going to be exactly like other browsers using chromium. But of course all browsers using Chromium all render things the same basically.

And Firefox still does not have a simple feature like global zoom without using crappy extensions. You have to set the zoom for every page you visit. No wonder most people use chrome. I cannot switch to Firefox without this feature.

I vastly prefer it that way. Every site has a different design and a different purpose, so there's no reason to assume that 150% zoom on one site = 150% zoom on another in terms of usability.

 

Not saying that either was is inherently better, but there's an argument either way.

Except the tv stations get paid to run those ads whether you watch them or not,  websites don't get paid when you actively block the ads.

I get the annoyance, but if everyone blocks ads eventually all the good content will go behind a paywall and we'll have a condition (like we do in science) where only those with accounts to the good journals can get the information first hand.

And this to me is the only legitimate reason to run an adblocker. So long as you whitelist the sites you use frequently (like LTT).

Recently went from Chrome to Mozilla and am pretty happy. Mind you android FF is not the best but if we're to believe the nightly, it's about to be up there. Few additional add-ons but I'll live. It's the desktop that is so much better imo. Using it with HTTPS everywhere and Privacy Badger, really happy with it. I just wish Duck Duck go was a better search engine and Proton email had few missing functions so I can ditch Google completely.

I could see myself switching to Chrome, however, I would need to import all my Google Chrome passwords into iCloud Keychain. 

 

I tried using Brave but was getting terrible hardware acceleration performance (like screen tearing with YouTube videos) and had to uninstall it. 

 

This switch would only be for my PC of course. I don't think you could make me switch from Safari on macOS and iOS. Its simply too good at protecting your privacy, syncing your information, and being power efficient.

I'd rather not. My iPhone is always with me and so is my MacBook. iCloud Keychain just auto populates and gives me an easy to use and secure password manager. 

 

Whenever I need to login to something on a computer that isn't mine, I can pull out my iPhone and go to passwords and enter the necessary information. It's far more convenient that switching away from Safari would be.

I see the appeal in that, however that can be quite annoying with 16+ length passwords. I use it due to it having a great app, windows app and a FF add-on. That in combination with Authy as 2FA. Just my way of thinking.

Yes. That does actually suck. However, the security offered by Safaris auto-password generation and the ability to access them easily and securely gives me some peace of mind for when I need to log into a computer that isn't mine.

No, whatever argument you may have to avoid blocking ads, it is plain, black and white not stealing, unless you make up your own, personal, only-applies-to-me definition of "stealing" which doesn't coincide with either the linguistic definition of the word nor the legal definition of a crime.

 

There are tons of things one can do, whether legal, illegal, ethical, or unethical, that (individually or collectively) would compromise the ability of a business to continue running. None but one of them constitute "stealing".
