New Microsoft Flight Simulator Announced

Microsoft showed off the next version of its Flight Simulator game at E3 2019, and it looks incredible. The company began the video teaser showing off a scene from the skies that it says was captured in real-time 4K. As you might expect, the new Flight Simulator's city views are powered by satellite data, as well as artificial intelligence from Azure, Microsoft's cloud computing service. It's not just the views of the mountains, skyscrapers or oceans that look amazing, though -- the planes and helicopters do, too.

Unfortunately, we don't know when it's coming to the Xbox and PC right now, but we'll surely find out in the months to come. For now, enjoy the trailer below.

Looks like Microsoft Terrorism Simulator is on the way with no official release date as of yet. Jokes aside the trailer was recorded is 4k60p and it looks absolutely stunning.

I think that the first Microsoft Flight Simulator release in 13 years (unless you count MSFS X: Steam edition as a new game) is going to be a welcome addition to the flight and sim enthusiasts alike. Especially because MSFS:X hasn't exactly aged well considering it was developed pre 2006 so you're missing modern rendering techniques, multi-threading as well as you have low poly models and low resolution textures. To my knowledge the only other legitimate (not counting Flight-Sim labs) competitor in the civilian aircraft flight simulator market is X-Plane but that comes with a pretty steep price but it does offer the most complete experience since it does see professional use in real simulators.

From the looks of things the sky is the limit with the new tech being integrated into the game as they're using satellite imagery, AI and cloud computing to generate rural and urban landscapes. However this probably means that the game may be an online only title because of the reliance on such technologies which may be part of the data harvesting business that Microsoft is building but that's purely my speculation.

I didn't think anyone was under the delusion that Flight Simulator X looked good by even 2006 standards.

Glad to see a much-needed update going through, though I expect heavy internet reliance or heavy-handed DRM would keep this well away from my list of games to try.

@trag1cthis is awesome news! I remember first playing Flight Simulator 98 and even then it was a fairly good game, I can only imagine what they cooked up now. Actually excited for a Microsoft game release for once in a long while.

One would hope. I've been itching to try my Vive in more simulator titles.

I played..."played" the original for one reason only. To fly the Horten Ho 229.

I never played in "realistic" mode, just the arcade.

If I can play that HO229 again, I'm all over this....

Assuming it's not online only, micro-transactioned and DRM'd to death.

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

You always have Combat Flight Simulator 3 for the best experience of it lol. Hopefully that one gets a remaster or a new title.

I can't wait for this to be released. If the game is as good as the trailer makes it look then this might just be my favourite game of all time.

I hope this game isn't plagued by microtransactions and DRM like almost every other game in 2019.. if it is then I'm going to stick with FSX.

If it has good flight characteristics and the same graphics as in the Trailer, this will be the most exciting game of 2020!

Not counting on VR support myself... for that to work you'd really want every button in a given cockpit to be interactive, and that's a lot of effort.  With that said, if Microsoft is committed to realism...

I've always enjoyed flight sim games but it's been a while since I played one.  So I'll be giving this one a try for sure.

Ya but FSX is a digitally stored turd at best. It didn't look that good back in 2006 to begin with but now it simply wants people to scratch their eyes out.
