Just a quick reminder to all those saying it's covering the 'WHOLE' globe... 2/3 of this planet is water... do you think they're going to actually texture map 'ALL' of the water too?

Earth's total planimetric (flat) land area is approximately 148,939,063.133 km2 (57,505,693.767 sq mi) which is about 29.2% of its total surface.

Yeah, I get why it's so easy to do the other 150 million square Km.

sigh ... another one of these?

No, the earth is not flat, it's round.  Using difficult words is not going to prove otherwise.

?

It's not like they're putting every house and every tree in the map.  A lot of the land, especially in rural areas, will be using the same buildings and textures over and over again.  It's only the landmarks that they really pay attention to.

Look, the Earth being flat puts meaning to my life because then it wasn't just happenstance. Fuck math and being able to see the curvature of the earth on an airplane or at the beach. Heat waves. Tides. Triangles are 60 degrees.

Wait do you really see the game engines being similar enough that this would work? As in, the companies releasing the content putting a little work to get a version for new FS.

If you're talking about 3D models, assets, and view/control mechanics then yes, but the real pain (if we're talking about upgrading a legacy game engine) is re-writing base level code in order to work-in the latest in rendering technologies and other engine features.

Just look at the issues Bungie had with their game engine when developing Destiny or how long it took Wargaming to add HD textures for vehicles and maps. Or in BioWare's case, Frostbite just didn't have the features they needed to build Anthem. ?
