I think this is really stupid since the company obviously doesn't own bitcoin so they shouldn't be able to trademark the term. It would be like if i trademarked yen ¥ and if anyone uses a yen symbol I try to sue them.

Apparently, this is not the only bogus patent filing from this company.

According to the UK Intellectual Property Office, the same company, A.B.C. IPHOLDINGS SOUTH WEST LLC, is registering trademark for the word WESTWORLD. Is it a coincidence that Westworld is also a name of "an American science fiction-thriller media franchise" (Wikipedia), including currently running TV Series (Wikipedia). Most importantly, application already went through stages "Application Received", "Examination", "Pre-Publication", and "Application Published" (on 29 March 2018) in issue 2018-013 right here. So if no one objects to it within 2 months from that date (aka by end of May?) it might be granted.
