LTT in the news! IMac pro video featured in multiple articles from 'news websites'

Looks like the news outlets are starting to talk about the iMac pro video. Maybe it will help get the word out about apples shoddy practices.

I'm no genius but generally when you offer to pay for a repair, the company will start the repair.

The most annoying part is when they say sure we'll fix it and then not fix it.The rest of the article is believable and I can't be bothered to actually research this,but like at least saying It'll cost you 5k to repair would have been helpful instead of just refusing

The CPU, RAM and GPU are soldered to the board, so that's one hell of an expensive Mobo.

In all likely hood they never even watched the video, regardless the fact apple can't fix it is hilarious to me

I stopped at: Apple's policy stipulates that it will refuse hardware which has been tempered with. Hasn't it been debunked that that warranty void is somehow illegal?

Yep warranty void stickers are not legally binding (though physical damage is usually not covered anyway), in this case they aren't even trying to get it fixed for free, they fully intended to pay for repairs and apple won't even let repair shops do it, but that's apple for ya they are on my blacklist for a reason.

Technically, that's under American Law, while we're dealing with Canadian Law in this case.

 

Though from the thread on the actual video, it appears it's a screw up on the side of Apple Canada and it's fairly straight forward to get it repaired in the USA.

Nah but according to this serious website it costs more just for parts than the price of the iMac itself... duh

Yeah, people are saying that LTT broke it why should they expect apple to fix it, but, to me, LTT knew it wasn't going to be covered and were willing to pay. Since that is the case, I don't see why they should've been refused

Since it's a relatively new (and very niche) device, Apple might not have the spare part allocation to fix/replace it.

Look. The point of the issue isn't actually that Apple can or can't do what they are doing. The point is that Apple's business practices are shit, and their supposed commitment to consumers is merely a facade, while they do their best to monopolize via vertical integration. It is "embrace, expand, extinguish" without the expanding and barely with the embracing.

 

Which don't get me wrong. It isn't surprising or "amoral" for an entity with the explicit purpose of profit maximization to do these things. But it is "anti-consumer" and the only reign on it, outside of legislation is to vote with one's wallet

i love how so many (individuals and publications) seem to see this as normal. I can't even be bothered to be sorry for Apple customers, it's well deserved to get the worst customer support imaginable. 

Apple is like that spoiled child that parents excuse any stupid behavior, so the kid just does what ever the hell he wants.
