Two Youtube creators making Pokemon Go content got their channels terminated

Trainer Tips and MYSTIC7 are two content creators that make Pokemon Go videos, on Youtube.

These creators are well known in the Pokemon Go community and also by Niantic, the creator of the Pokemon Go app.

They were several times sponsored by Niantic.

This morning, their channels were terminated for violating community guidelines.

MYTIC7 posted, on twitter, that is channel "went down for community guideline strikes for sexual content".

18 hours later, their channels are still terminated. Even if Youtube is aware of the problem.

These two creators were only posting Family Friendly content related to Pokemon Go.

These Youtube termination are getting out of hand ...

Edit and Followup :

Their channels are back up.

Edit 2 and second followup :

So there's been a possible explanation...

Apparently Pokémon Go uses CP or Combat Points but YouTube's bot mistook it to mean child pornography and flagged 3 channels for child sexual abuse.

Trainer Tips posted a video on his other channel.

At 6:30, he explains that the Youtube algorithm went after his channel for using the term "CP". In Pokemon Go it means "Combat Power", but the Youtube algorithm mistaken it for "Child Porn".

He adds that this already happened to WWE videos, because they use "CP" to refer to "CM Punk" and Club Penguin videos, "CP" referring to the name of the game.

How many more times will this happen? Content creators keep getting zapped by YouTube for mysterious reasons, while obeying guidelines.

Could Floatplane be the new home for content creators then? Obviously Google only cares to make money anymore, they stopped caring about the people that make them that money though.

I doubt it any time soon. Floatplane is still in early stages, there's no chance it will be able to compete with YouTube right now.

I do think it has a chance though. LTT have 8 million subscribers so if even half of their subscribers switch over to Floatplane, they'll have a good user base to get them going.

It's widely known it's still early. I was suggesting it for when it's finally ready. I feel like they're going to do such an amazing job on content delivery, GUI, audience interaction, and support in general to make a name for themselves pretty quick. At least at FP, they really seem to have their shit together, they just need time.

Yeah, I do think FP will be a good alternative to YT. It's just a matter of time.

They never cared about the people.

And if you look at YouTube from the financial perspective, they don't care about money with that avenue either.

Youtube is dead at this point is out of control and the vendetta rules like apply, blackmailing, abusive takedowns etc.

If it doesnt change no one will use it to make content anymore, i think these unhinged measures were lobbied by the fucking corporations who hate content creators stealing their TV dominance and in turn they destroyed youtube, i dont understand why companies like google allow this to happen, i would fucking move all my business into europe law protection, at worst creators would only be forced to not have their content available in the USA if they still find a way to legally block them abusively. But then the rest of the world gets youtube by regular rules, fuck.

You can't compete with YT, you have to do something different. YT is a failed business model that can't be made to work. That's why YT is actually illegal in the USA, from an Anti-Trust Perspective. If Floatplane or a similar type of platform gets big enough, there's an outside chance it could be what takes down YT. Google is generally smart enough to never let their fingers show up on their dirty work, so it's unlikely, but there even Google's lawyers aren't going to manage to save them from Anti-Trust litigation.

Youtube needs to hire more people to properly investigate claims, bots are nowhere near ready to be making these decisions.

Yes. It has also yet to ever turn a profit. It's been illegally cross-subsidized to the tune of well over 10 billion USD. This is Civil not Criminal issues, though. YT is in violation of their license to practice business in the USA.

Doesn't Floatplane charge you a fee per channel? Like e.g. you need to pay a monthly fee to watch the LTT-channel, then another fee to watch Bitwit's channel and so on? At least that how I've understood their pricing to work and that makes it wholly unappealing to a lot of people and therefore not a good alternative for Youtube.

pre-google, youtube didn't even allow videos longer than 11 minutes and would delete any and all copyrighted videos. They could be doing a better job, but its better than anyone else.

Google, even before the morph into Alphabet, went to a lot of work to keep the actual numbers from YT from being available. And, even if they did almost turn a profit in some years, this ignores that they'd have had to pay full rate for a lot of their infrastructure as a stand-alone business. Floatplane charges what they do for a reason. The actual cost of Video is still extremely high.

There is thought that YT might have finally been "profitable" with Mobile ads, but then the Adpocalypse happened. While YT likely used it as an excuse to lower payout rates to keep more revenue, they did see a massive drop in revenue from it.

I haven't tried Floatplane but that would sort of make sense if you want to support certain channels. Not a very good alternative if you want to watch for one fee,and the other thing I don't like is you can't see whats on Floatplane in the current version without paying first.

Yes, it is (3$/channel/month). But I think it's only for now and I could think that Floatplane would also have free side when they are ready for it (like the whole platform is ready, they have enough userbase to make enough money to to pay for the HW supporting free users would need etc.). But Floatplane currently is in very early stages, there's only 3 channels and it's invite only (IIRC), so it will probably take a long time before we see Floatplane Free. @Slick
