Seasonic is raising PSU prices by $5 to $10 due to China US tarrifs

Mysticode

https://www.anandtech.com/show/13567/seasonic-increases-msrps-of-psus-in-the-us

"

In a bit of an unusual move, Seasonic is announcing in advance that they intend to increase the prices of most of their power supplies in the United States. Citing "recent market developments" - i.e. the tariffs imposed by the U.S. government on select components manufactured in China - the company will be increasing the recommended prices of its products to cover the higher costs. The new MSRPs will become effective on December 1st, 2018,

Once the new prices go into effect, all Seasonic products made in China and sold in the U.S. will become $5 to $20 more expensive, depending on the product and its original price. It's worth noting that Seasonic is listing their manufacturer suggested retail prices here, and these are not the prices that retailers are actually paying for the hardware. So actual retail prices will depend both on what the real cost is to retailers, and what kind of margins they're aiming for.

"

RAM/SSD is coming down, PSU's are going up. Guess we can't have our cake and eat it too? Thanks, American tariffs!

Remember that Seasonic is an OEM for a lot major PSU players, so it will be more than Seasonic's own PSU's raising in prices.

EDIT: Note that these increases are in regards to the current 2018 tariffs. These tariffs are very likely to double in Q1 of 2019.

It's just the start of raising prices on PSU's. It will ripple through resellers and you'll see prices jump $20+ rather quickly.

the power supply might be the cheapest thing in a whole build short of maybe a dvd drive if you still wanted one.

so it's like 40$ to 60$ now.

You're selecting some low-tier "dangerous" PSU's in that case. I would never skimp on a PSU.

$20 more now with the 10% tariffs, but will go higher as the increase in January 2019. Likely to be shelling out $30 to $50 more in Q1 2019 if a trade deal isn't reached: https://ustr.gov/about-us/policy-offices/press-office/press-releases/2018/september/ustr-finalizes-tariffs-200

Seasonic is the OEM of many of Corsair's AX series PSUs. Their common OEM partners are Seasonic and Flextronics... Seasonic has always been a top tier PSU manufacturer.

The majority of Corsair's models nowadays are made by CWT or Great Wall. But yeah they have Seasonic units too (and used to have a lot of them).

People really over estimate how much they need to spend to get a good power supply. I mean, obviously if you want every do-hicky in the bin and every color in the crayon in box, you are gonna pay more.

If you look for a good power supply that has what you "need" and compare it to a good power supply that has everything you "want", you will most likely pay more for what you "want."

I had to explain this to my brother-in-law. He bought the Corsair SF450 for $74.99 because he thought anything lower wasn't going to last, or would fry his system, because he was told by many people that anything lower wasn't a good PSU. He could have gotten a good PSU that would last for years, for half the cost. Remember, gray does not necessarily mean "stay away".

My apologies, that would be the end of my rant.

i mean yeah I paid $60 for mine but it was just to replace my 10 year old antec that would shut down. This little increase is more significant to me (probably bc of how I'm being raised) than to other people.

Nah. Several of their low-end series are from HEC, like the W and BV units. Seasonic makes the GS units, FSP makes a few series like the GQ, and there are another few units from other OEMs. Super Flower is the most common OEM for EVGA, but definitely not the only one.
