Seasonic is raising PSU prices by $5 to $10 due to China US tarrifs

Mysticode

More tarriffs and less fake news please. This doesnt affect anyone at all and if you really care about $5 so much wait for newegg to have a $25 mail in rebate. They do it on seasonic psus pretty constantly.

An extra $5-10 does add up on a build when most of the parts are affected by tariffs which aren't doing much except screwing over consumers. I wouldn't mind the tariffs so much if there was at least an incentive to move production somewhere else like Taiwan or South Korea.

Trade with China and consumers' unethical purchasing practices has undermined the economy for decades now. The tarriffs are long overdue.

I think it's less the consumer's fault for "unethical purchasing" and more the fact that a lot of tech hardware companies are based in Taiwan.

It doesn't cost them money when we out tariffs on their stuff but rather it cost the consumer money because goods are more expensive.

People really over estimate how much they need to spend to get a good power supply. I mean, obviously if you want every do-hicky in the bin and every color in the crayon in box, you are gonna pay more.

If you look for a good power supply that has what you "need" and compare it to a good power supply that has everything you "want", you will most likely pay more for what you "want."

I got "roasted" by a group of idiots because my second PC has a 3570K and a GTX 480 running off a CX430M. I know the CX 430 is actually OK. I don't know if the cx 430m is different. Both are channel well. The reason I think it might be differnt is the cx 450 is great wall and the cx540m is channel well, so some kind of update happened there.

Honestly, even with tariffs on them, I won't change my SeaSonic buying habits because of that. They are pretty much the only computer parts company that gets a free pass from me because of their good track record and general product quality over their entire stack of products. So yeah, that 10$ will be cut somewhere else in my builds if need be. I'm not cheaping out on the PSU because of that.

Current Build: SD-DESK-07

Case: Bitfenix Prodigy // PSU: SeaSonic SS-650RM // Motherboard: P8Z77-I DELUXE // CPU: Intel Core i5 3570k // Cooler: Corsair H80i // RAM: Patriot Intel Extreme Masters 2X8GB DDR3 1600MHz // SSD: Crucial M500 240GB // Video: EVGA GeForce GTX 660Ti SC 2GB

Looking at the current PSU pricing on PCPP without rebates, among the <$100 PSUs. There's not a single Seasonic PSU that makes sense. There's always a better/equivalent PSU available for less money. The only people this might directly affect is Seasonic fanboys, as far as I can tell.

If all of the brands increase their pricing, it could become a bigger issue, though.

What's better than the Seasonic G 650W for less than $72?

Didn't see that one. Just kind of scrolled down and mostly looked for the Focus and Prime.

The 550W could also make sense.

The problem starts with Seasonic being a big OEM, so they make psus for lots of companies, like EVGA, Corsair, the new Asus psus and probably many more.

So when Seasonic rises prices, the prices of other brands goes up too.

That's exactly right. A lot of people are very ignorant to how all of this works... It's not only Seasonic's own PSU's that will see price rises. Also, a large OEM jumping on the price increases now means you'll see fellow large OEMs raising their prices. But hell, we're saving on SSDs and RAM nowadays, so who cares right? ?

Seasonic is definitely not a big OEM. They are a lot smaller than e.g. FSP and CWT.

The Earthwatts Gold Pro, GS, PS, AX, Thor and NZXT E are all Seasonic made PSUs, and all of them either don't make sense at their price point and/or are expensive enough that they only make sense in such a high end build that the price increase won't matter.

Those are the PSUs that have Seasonic as their OEM, off the top of my head.

If you're spending >$130 on a PSU, you need have a very high end build in order to justify it. So what's another $10 when buying a $2500 PC?

And in case there are other PSUs that have Seasonic as their OEM, which ones?

:)

It doesn't cost them money when we out tariffs on their stuff but rather it cost the consumer money because goods are more expensive.

It disincentivizes companies from selling out to china and makes the ones that have repatriate their manufacturing.

Also Foxconn is opening a huge plant in the US as a rsult of trade pressures. The tarriffs are working beautifully.

Though personally id rather there be a full embargo on chinese made stuff like we have with other hostile nations.
