The DDR4 GT 1030 gets 40-50% Lower Performance than the GDDR5 Version

As it says in the title, the GT 1030 using DDR4 rather than GDDR5 is getting framerates up to 40-50% lower in games, compared to the original GDDR5 version.

 

First two games he benchmarks are: 

 

Overwatch Med-High settings, 1080p: 

GDDR5 GT 1030: Avg 57, 1% 45, 0.1% 35

DDR4 GT 1030: Avg 28, 1% 26, 0.1% 20

 

Fortnite Low-Med settings, 1080p:

GDDR5 GT 1030: Avg 52, 1% 40, 0.1% 29

DDR4 GT 1030: Avg 29, 1% 25, 0.1% 17

This is terrible news as those who aren't aware of the two variants and the massive difference between them will likely be caught out and ripped off with these cards, far more so than with the GTX1060 3GB. Unless you absolutely need the lower 20W TDP vs the 30W of the original, I see no real reason to pick up one of these cards.

It has 65% lower memory bandwidth, so this is what you'd expect.

 

This has happened many times with low-end cards, but of course it's still shitty.

Companies like EVGA put in the title DDR memory and sometimes DDR4. But to the uneducated GDDR and DDR look similar

Okay that's beyond absurd. Looking at retailer here and there's no clear indication on some cards. One card has 2GHDR in its name, even techie could fall for this simply thinking that it's some random product code. Not even talking about normal folks.

This is terrible news as those who aren't aware of the two variants and the massive difference between them will likely be caught out and ripped off with these cards, far more so than with the GTX1060 3GB. Unless you absolutely need the lower 20W TDP vs the 30W of the original, I see no real reason to pick up one of these cards.

It is deceiving to begin with, even if the performance would be (almost) the same. But to name it the same, and have the performance be THAT MUCH worse, OUCH!

 

Nvidia is deservingly taking shit for this from various tech Youtube channels such as Gamers Nexus. I hope they learn from this mistake. Although honestly, most people that buy the likes of a GT 1030 are probably not really tech enthusiasts, more like grandmothers buying a card for their grandchilds birthday to play Minecraft or Fortnite or whatever. and probably don't watch tech YouTube channels. They will be none the wiser sadly.

57fps avrage in OW is still respectable, drop it to low-medium and id say thats perfectly fine tbh. the GT 1030 can play some esports games ok. i would use it for a super tight SFX system if i was unable to get the 1050TI. id almost get one just because of how cheap they are
