Car Enthusiast Club [Now Motorcycle friendly!] - First thread to 150k! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

Jeez, I'm glad my car is only a 4 Cylinder. Thise NGK laser Iridium spark plugs are expensive. Need to do some shopping around as Napa tends to be overpriced for parts.

Still, much better to doing a timing belt service on a similar schedule with my old Volvo, so perhaps I shouldn't complain too much.

RockAuto. Usually best place to get cheap name brand parts.

The 2.0L ecoboost is the best ecoboost.

So I assume a closed deck has no gap between the block and the cylinder walls?

From what research suggest, copper is better with modified or turbo engines (what many Miatas will probably undergo) anyway.

I'll stick to OE here. For the daily commuter, a minimum of time under the hood is preferred. That's why I went with the manual Mazda 3i SV in the first place, so that sticking with the maintenance schedule doesn't eat my wallet nor time. The fact that there's next to no luxury features to break (lacking even power locks) is a bonus. :P

Honestly for a daily commuter, it should have some luxury features to make the ride a bit more bearable/comfortable. I would hate to drive a car that constantly annoys me with almost no features on it.

Just be lucky you don't live in the bay. Commutes from the bay to the valley take at least 2 hours at minimum, because the freeway systems suck, it's not able to handle all the traffic during rush hour. but i think at the least some power windows and remote entry and a radio and a/c should be enough to get by.

Anyone have any idea what the hell this thing is? This was parked on the street just outside my house. It looks like a kit car judging by the creases, fit and finish, but I can't find out anything about it anywhere online. Not sure why it has an upside-down Infiniti badge on it either.

Think a open deck could make a thrown rod more of a issue. Though I have seen rods go straight through a block completely so it might not really matter. IDK someone else should chime in. Think it has more to do with the type of metal and its temperment but I know nothing about metallurgy.

Edit: If its better the engine in my VW is closed deck for what thats worth.

closed deck certainly provides less of a chance of blowing a headgasket when under load.

Isn't the 2.5T from the WRX a closed deck. Subarus tend to have head gasket leaks a lot. Maybe it's due to it being a flat four and not the open/closed deck design?

yeah it is.

so it's not just deck design that can cause HG failures. i really wonder why those tend to fail.... it can't just be from it being sideways, can it?

edit: it seems to be more of an OEM headgasket design problem than anything else.

For some things though, Rockauto doesn't seem to be cheap. For my protege fog light housings, which have a crack in one of them, it's at least 80 bucks for one side, but they run about 40 on ebay.

just don't have a favorite place to get things. always shop around. unless you like need it now, in which case you try locally first.

I always look around for parts, but usually i go to rock auto first see what kinda prices i should expect for a part. rockauto is my benchmark, and i go off of that price, see if i can find a price matching or lower than that.

Found another! Same color body, white wheels. Wondering how he kept the tint though, as I had to have mine removed... It was registered in NY, so maybe he put in for a vision requirement? Ive heard you can get around that law with that note from a doctor.

Not sure. I personally thought the original tint on my car (which was similar) was hard to see out of at night, so possibly that reason... (But the car does have a back up cam soooo)
