Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

i was discussing engine swaps with @vinyldash303 yesterday.

still don't really know whats the best for a miata:

GM Ecotec 2.0/2.4 -> cheap, but is it even worth it? (not much over the stock engine... still needs a turbo or something)

Honda JV6 -> low quality swap kit (kinda sketchy)

Jaguar V6 -> expensive

Honda k24 -> expensive

LS -> really expensive to do right; a bit too much power for the car to be a good track car.

turbo stock motor -> I just don't think it would last very long at the ~300 hp level I'd want.s

LSJ / B235R

Didn't realize how wide the vq was.

Well if the goal is more power than stock, it ain't happening. Plus it'd be hard to source a turbo 3 here in the states.

there are versions with 100,125 and 140hp ... the NB 1.8 had like 140?

also the fiesta R2 rally car has 180hp 1.0 ecoboost...

but you can always go 1.6 i4 ecoboost ... or wait for the new 1.5 I3 to come out with 200hp

a 2.0L ecoboost would probably be perfect. idk if they have problems.

also there isn't exactly a publicly available kit for one... so big $.

Buying a car that makes that power stock would be easier and cheaper than swapping.

the only thing i'd replace the miata with is an ariel atom tbh lol.. or maybe a lotus elise/exige

both of which aren't cheaper than swapping. surprisingly.

i dont even know what that is. guessing something to do with enjoying pain.

it's not a pain if you don't make it one... the best jobs are the ones you can grab a friend and just enjoy your time working on your project, with lots of laughter.

i mean... yes getting to the starter bolts on the miata was hard to do during the motor swap i had to do. but i did it... laughing almost the whole time at how stupidly positioned the starter is on a miata lol

things are different when you do them to simply just enjoy being able to do them rather than it being a chore or a job...

I'm thinking LT4/5 swap, whatever tranny is in the C7, gut everything inside except the dash and climate controls, and ac because i gotta have me some ac.

Lower it about, well a lot. Stick some 305 rubber on it. It would be fun.

Bilstein shocks, while not super track focused are probably about as good as you'll be able to find, an eibach springs will do the trick. Belltech makes thick sways for it.

Do all this to a 2wd, you wont have a heavy 4x4 system to worry about, and itsill sit high enough to where you dont need the skid plates.

Still weigh close to 5,400 pounds, but you'd get almost 700 horse out of it.

Won't be busting lap times but you'd get some giggles out of it.

not even a radio, but you'll still keep the a/c? you seem to have your priorities straight.

also you should put 6 recaro seats in there just to invite 6 people to enjoy in your insanity.

Umm A/C compressors turn off at WOT/high rpm... so it wouldn’t even work at the track lol
