So I just upgraded from a 1650s which ran the game fine, to a used 1080 ti and the card runs really well, but about 5 minutes in to the game, it freezes, and then says DirectX had an unrecoverable error. I saw some stuff on Reddit about disabling ray tracing is the fix, however mine is a GTX card and therefore doesn't have it in the first place. Any help is appreciated and I can provide any information you might need to help me.

Fixes I tried:

Resetting settings

Deleting 1kb settings files

Deleting player files

Reseating GPU

Updating DirectX

Updating drivers

Edit:

Here's a list of games that crash and don't crash

Warzone crashes(DirectX error)

Ac origins crashes(no reason)

Far cry 6 does not crash

I will try more games in the near future if I need to

I had a problem with World of Warcraft and it turns out the issue was with DirectX.  I was using DirectX 12 and had done a Tuesday morning update to WoW and it turns out that update was/is incompatible with DirectX 12.  Someone here in the forums recommended going back to DirectX 11 and that fixed the problem.  Give it a shot, nothing to lose, everything to gain.

Take care and good luck.

Will try that. I don't think that cod natively supports dx11 however I will try to put -d3d11 in the launch instructions on steam

Update: i tried assasins creed origins, which is dx11, and it crashed. I tried far cry 6, which is supposed to be dx 12 i think, and it didnt crash, so it wouldnt make any sense for it to be a direct x version issue
