Sharp is getting ready to sell their 8K TV's

umm im not particularly ready for this, alot of people dont have services that they watch often (like Set Top Boxes) that offer 4K, but 8K will be interesting i cannot find anything other than Raw red camera footage to watch in 8K

but then processing that compressing and decompressing the files will be an interesting feat for the TV's

Honestly unless this somehow expedites the production of 4K content, I see zero damn point in 8K TV's coming out already.

i completly agree, i feel like this is only going to appeal to the 1% just 'feel' like getting it because it 'looks cool'

By the time 8k content becomes commonplace, new DRM standards will likely render current 8k TVs moot anyway.

I would love other technologies like 120 Hz 4k or cheap OLED, but at least it is still moving forward.

In-home 3D is dead. Even LG dropped it in their 2017 OLED sets. Sony's 2017 Z9D is the only set from this year with 3D that I know of off hand and that is like a $5,000 TV.

Calm down people, at least it's still progressing. Just because the vast majority won't buy it doesn't mean it shouldn't exist. You don't have to buy it and it doesn't harm you by existing.

You're starring at a stationary image in front of you regardless.

 

"2D tv"..all stationary displays are 2 dimensional outside of VR where you can actually look around in a 3 dimensional space--if you wanna discuss actual dimensions.

 

If you draw a cube on a piece of paper vs a square, the object is still viewed on the same flat surface. Same for 3D movies, it's an optical illusion.

Unless you have a 100" TV, it won't look any different than 4K from across your living room.

I will never understand people complaining about stuff like this. "We don't have 8K content and barely even have 4K! What's the point!"

 

The point is that content creation won't get pushed forward until consumers start asking for/needing it. The more people with 4K and 8K TV's, the faster its use will roll out.

 

There was hardly any 720p content and virtually no 1080p content when HDTV's first hit the market. 

This was my prediction for years, all the way back in 2010. That 4K TV's would hit the market but become the "720p" of the next generation, where 8K will roll out just a few years after and become the norm. I believe that 8K TV's will be where the resolution race pauses for a while again, 10 or so years like 1080p sat as king, before companies attempt pushing it higher again.

 

And that's a GOOD thing.

Great, though yes some time until watchable content on it and all. But 8K on monitors more interesting, amazing pixel density and workspace.

Since Japan is going to broadcast part of the 2020 Olympics in 8K, I guess it's smart to get a few TVs out so they can start pushing extremely hardcore sports fans to buy it. 

NHK also plans to start "full scale" 8K broadcasting in 2018, so this TV is then just in time.

8K TVs make no sense whatsoever at normal TV viewing distances.

 

8K monitors though being right in front of your face however will make a difference so hopefully due to people being gullible they will buy loads of 8K TVs and bring down the price of 8K monitors mwhahahhahahahah.

Ermmm cheapo 4K TVs are already then same price as cheapo 1080p TVs so...can it really get any cheaper?  (unless £250-275 vs £300 is such a big difference that you need 4K TVs to be £50 cheaper).

I don't think people realize live sporting events have insanely high bit rates, resolutions, and frame rates. But 8K on a TV seems a bit silly since it would probably look like 4K from a couch distance away. Cool to see the tech purchasable
