Rumor ! - Intel to Launch 12c/24t skylake-x cpu's to crush AMD RYZEN

AMD Ryzen Terror: Intel Could Commercialize 12 Core, 24 Thread CPU – Heavy Discounts On Intel Processors

Quote

According to the report published by the Italian publication Bitsandchips.it, the likelihood of Intel taking the high road to lock horns with AMD’s Ryzen processors is very much there. Worth noting, Intel has already confirmed that it intends to include 10 core Skylake variants in its future high-end projects (read: Skylake X). However, if the new report is true, we may as well expect to see a massive, 12 core, 24 thread die in the near future.

Note that the folks over at Bitsandchips have so far had a pretty impressive track record of making reliable forecasts. However, because their recent report itself acknowledge that the info therein is based on mere rumors, we would urge you to treat it with a grain of salt.

But then, assuming that Intel is actually prepping 12 core variants for the future Skylake-X lineup, we are probably going to witness a pretty formidable lineup shakeup. If true, rather than relying on the six and eight core parts for high-end products, Intel will be expanding its portfolio by emphasizing more on the six, eight, 10, and 12 core parts.

For full details see the source: http://www.mobipicker.com/amd-ryzen-effect-intel-commercialize-12-core-24-thread-cpu-heavy-discounts-intel-processors/

Personally i think they would be doing a 12c CPU.. since all current Ryzen comes with 8 cores, and the new R5 will come will 6c/12t cpus.. this means that all of intels cpu's will look "bad" compared to AMD... So i think intel wants to add those more cores and maybe even add 6c to the i7 linueup...

So basicly i think a "smart" move from intel would be somethink line

I3 series with

2c/4t

i5 with

4c/4t

i7 with

4c/8t

+ 1-2 different 6c/12t

and move up a bit with the extreme lineup to

8c/12t

10c/12

12c/24t

If have no clue if this could be viable and something intel could do... but i think that would at lease be a smarter move from intel and then also make sure NOT to price their top tier cpus 1700 usd..... maybe the 12c/24t would be 1000usd max if i was intel.. but who knows??? We have to wait and see how things turns up.. and see if we get a 12c or not and how they might update the mainstream lineup or not...

Assuming that would be true, it would mean nothing if the pricing doesn't change

It won't matter if, knowing Intel, they price it at $2000. Fighting AMD on the higher end won't hurt them, as they aimed completely at the current low-medium consumer markets. This won't crush AMD at all, unless they price it within the same galaxy this time around. I just don't see Intel doing that.

Doesn't matter what they release, it depends on price. If they release it at $800 then it might be a good deal but I doubt they'll do it.

Before any "crushing" happens we need independent reviews (as in people buying retail chips, not "Independent" reviewers being handed cherry picked review samples by AMD) so we know what exactly needs to be crushed.

Indeed, if they make such a move, most likely it won't be to crush AMD at the segment in which they compete, but rather to keep having a very pricey CPU in the segment in which they don't. After all, such product will be attractive to whoever was buying the 10-core 2011-3 CPUs, and irrelevant to the people buying 1151 i7s. The former don't care about absurd prices if they get the top multi-core performance, the latter already can build 3 gaming PCs with the cost of the CPU alone, without using AMD.

A lot of the reviewers are having to buy their 1700/1700x's as they are being sent 1800x's. I'll be looking forward to Jayz video as he has to buy all 3 if he wants to review all 3.

They should but I don't expect most of them will. Jay video might be a good one on that though we'll see.

Not really... AMD will send him the 1800X.... BTW, AMD sent all CPUs to Paul, which seems even more suspicious, if you take into account that Paul had the intention of buying the 1700 and 1700X...

For Intel, I think they just want to make sure they have a "consumer" product which can unquestionably demonstrate their position as top dog. Of course, I use the term "consumer" loosely here, as it'll probably be rather spendy.

In a way, this has echos of the gigahertz race if anyone is old enough to remember that. From memory, the Athlon and P3 were leapfrogging each other up the clock scale, but AMD were first to hit 1000 MHz. The P3 was running out of steam by that point. So while they got beaten to a GHz, they tried to recover by launching essentially an overclocked P3 at just over 1 GHz to say they had the fastest. Only problem was, it was later found to be unstable and they have to recall it to further embarrassment. There was no fix, and they went on to make the P4...

I don't think we're in that position here. The architecture is well known and understood, and attaining higher clocks is mostly a problem of balancing clocks/power and adequate cooling.

And that 12 core CPU will have a ridiculous price to match... one that will make the ~$1600 for the 6950X seem tame in comparison.

Also it's only obvious that Skylake-X will beat Ryzen. It's a new generation.

New Build (The Compromise): CPU - i7 9700K @ 5.1Ghz Mobo - ASRock Z390 Taichi | RAM - 16GB G.SKILL TridentZ RGB 3200CL14 @ 3466 14-14-14-30 1T | GPU - ASUS Strix GTX 1080 TI | Cooler - Corsair h100i Pro | SSDs - 500 GB 960 EVO + 500 GB 850 EVO + 1TB MX300 | Case - Coolermaster H500 | PSUEVGA 850 P2 | Monitor - LG 32GK850G-B 144hz 1440p | OSWindows 10 Pro.

I don't trust AMD so it's the fruit of the poisonous tree: They could end up reporting inaccurately through no fault of their own.

I'll take relative performance results fairly but not going to take any overclocking Jay does seriously. Out of everyone to send a binned chip to Jay would be the one they do it for.

Also, I don't trust any company that sends out products. I mean, look at the XFX GTR 480 they sent him, a fucking golden one. Ya, the GTR is good but not that good
