Is it like an obligatory thing for you to put 'More Bad News For AMD' in front of every title? If you're going to be biased, don't show it in your title.

This isn't bad news. This is cost management. Yeah, people losing their jobs sucks, but from the perspective of the company, it's not bad news at all - it's just business.

Im gonna say the same thing that I say to all of this bad AMD news we've been getting lately.

Lets just hope whatever we're waiting for from AMD is worth it.

This in itself doesn't mean much, though the fact the Silverlake talks fell through completely (kitguru) is a very bad sign.

That's just heartbreaking. I hope that AMD will recover from this sh*tty period...or it will be the end of good prices for hardware... NVIDIA and Intel are already pushing prices to the sky...

No not really. The GTX980ti is the same price as the Fury X and performs better. Intel has a better chip then AMD in every lineup and the prices are not insane. Maybe for a i7 5960X but then again it is a power efficient monster

No not really. The GTX980ti is the same price as the Fury X and performs better. Intel has a better chip then AMD in every lineup and the prices are not insane. Maybe for a i7 5960X but then again it is a power efficient monster

As soon as AMD launched the R9 300 series NVIDIA dropped their card prices by 50$ on 980s, however I was talking about high end stuff: 6700k are more expensive than 2600k used to be, and graphics card for more than 1k$ are not something you should see. Regarding the 5960x, I have one, and no, it's not that power efficient. It's more efficient than AMD, but it still takes a lot of power.

Why not see $1000 graphics cards? I'd very much argue the improvements have been enormous moving from Kepler to Maxwell, and the price is what that product is worth. Frankly AMD needs to stop playing the cheap game and act it's as good as Nvidia.

Isn't this just normal behaviour? Already seen a whole bunch of (big) companies cut off jobs, not surprising that AMD, which is doing very poorly currently, wouldn't follow suit.

do we even know what is actually going on in the company? what plans they have going forward? no not really.
we only know info that is released to the public.
job cuts doesnt mean a company is dying ffs. a restructuring could be due to tighter management regulations, overhead reduction measures etc.
Sure, for AMD's case it may seem like a cost saving measure to help stay afloat but how is that a surefire indicator of the company dying. facing troubles? sure thats probably true but its not new news.
if every profit maximizing company don't do this, regardless of how well off they are, they aren't operating at maximum efficiency and making the most money.

Restructuring a company literally means nothing about whether they are doing well or not. Are we just going to ignore how Microsoft restructured its company and made job cuts to unnecessary postions? What about Ford? How about HP? Are we just going to ignore those companies that all dealt with major debt and still managed to completely turn around their respective products and become leaders in their markets?

That's not true at all. It was a restructuring of the company. Those 5% could've been paid interns or any number of redundant or nonessential personnel.

Saying that because if they didn't need those 5% then they wouldn't be needed in the first place is complete crap. Simply put is saying they needed those personel last year but they don't this year; a comparison can be made to the way a hospital runs.

A hospital is full to the brim of patients due to a new illness infecting more people than last year however they don't have enough personel to cover those patients as well as the old. So they open up a 'new' ward and with it hire some new nurses, cleaners etc so up goes the costs.

The following year barely anybody gets sick so that 'new' ward is empty, as well as the original hospital not being used as much, and those new personel aren't doing anything and so costs the hospital more money than they can afford.

The logical end result is to fire the personel and shut down the ward that they required for the patients. This cuts costs and save them money they need.

ALL companies do this regardless of whether they are losing money or making profits. This restructuring of AMD, since it was a 5% cut - approximately 480 employes, does NOT reflect whether this is bad news.

Jim Kellers departure from AMD has nothing to do with AMDs ability to pay him his salary. Jim Keller departed from AMD due to the fact he had done his job, designing a CPU, and wasn't needed anymore. Essentially he was probably one of those 5%.

Didn't they just awarded a crap ton of money for people on the higher ups? This doesn't look good tbh, cutting on the workforce while reinforcing bad decisions by awarding the wrong people for shady decisions.
