The I7-950's gots to go! Updated 1/04

ltguy

post-22018-0-37857000-1379804674.jpg

Thought my titans needed to stretch their legs so i'm upgrading from an i7-950 to ivy bridge-e: EVGA Dark, i7-4930k, 16gb HyperX Beast 2400 mhz. Heres the progress so far. Still want to try to straighten up the pcie cable runs, but i just wanted to finish and test it. Ran 8 sata cables just so i wouldnt have to go through the pain of pulling out the cd-rom bays in the future to add on.

Wow.

That ram sounds so unnecessary. Enjoy your upgrade.

you would have gotten the same performance from a 1600mhz ram pack, even if 2400mhz sounds so fancy :D

It booted up! That always a plus. Haven't messed with any bios settings yet so the ram is still at 1333mhz. Ran cinebench 11.5 and it scored 10.8. Seems to be running in spec.

  • 2 months later...

So i've been using the machine for about 2 months now and everything's working fine. I havent really taken alot of photos because i've been trying to pick out a new camera and just have not gotten around to it yet.

IMG 20131014 233817 (1)

Even though this switch 810 has lots of options and tons of room, i grew tired of all the plastic and overall build quality. Time to go back to my first love. Lian Li !

I ordered the Lian LI PC-D600 and it arrived today. Its supposed to be a Christmas present so I wont assemble it till the holidays when I have time off of work. But that leaves plenty of time to plan and shop. I might pick up a Swiftech H20- 320 or something similar to go behind the motherboard tray and replace my h100i but still not sure if its worth it to me or not. Did a little ms paint to see how everything would fit. Little bummed the mobo will cover up some of the cable passthroughs but it should still work.

Let me know if you have any suggestions for a good 360mm water cooling kit or thoughts on the current one I looking at.

Interesting, definitely interested to see final results. Get that Lian Li case please, that would look awesome plus you should sleeve the cables. Also I recommend you post your pictures on imgur.com and then copy the BBCode it will be larger and be easier to see. Followed!

Sorry for the terrible image quality. It's still a work in progress. Was having some issues with my green/silver pcie extensions so in this shot is a hd7750 i was using for testing. I have the extensions working now so the titans will be back in soon with some close up shots to come. Also picked up a HX1050 psu to replace my non modular TX950.  Also i replaced the plexiglass window with a 3/32 inch real piece of glass since my plexi had some issues when i received the case. Ordered some fan grills for the H100i pull fans. Need to do some major wire management on the back side and drop in the Titans and that'll be it.

Its a very nice case but with Lian Li the expectations are high. Its definitely an awesome case but i'd prefer to see the normal slide on/off doors of the previous Lian Li cases. Also the CD-Rom bays while removable completely block all the cable pass throughs on the right side of the motherboard. But beside those picky complaints I love this case and hope to use it for many years.

Finally got all the cables run through the cable passthroughs. Lots of fun with the CD-Rom bays in the way. Not to mentions this EATX motherboard covers half of each passthrough.

Heh uhh you know you're supposed to take out the whole 5.25 bay assembly for cabling.

You pop off the front bezel/panel, then unscrew the 5.25 bay assembly thumb screws, and then you are able to get your wiring through.

Oh i've had the drive bays out many times but them being removable doesnt really help. The problem is that there is only about 1/2" of clearance between the drive bays and the motherboard tray. Not enough room for thick cables or connectors of any type.

Well I had purchased some 6 and 8 pin pcie wire combs from frozencpu.com. Turns out.. they looked terrible. Wires were spaced too far apart. So i took the time to straighten out my existing pcie power cable runs.
