Set the network connection for your XP VM to NAT or Bridged mode. That will give it access to the same networks your host OS has.

You have to go into the settings for your VM and make sure "Adapter 1" is enabled and set to either Bridged or NAT under Network.

I just grabbed this screenshot from Google Images, the interface may look a little different but should be pretty much the same.
