MICROSOFT DENIES CATEGORICALLY:

Microsoft categorically stated that users are allowed to disable data collection function in Win10 whenever they want through the Setting screen (Go through this article to learn how to stop Windows 10 from spying on you). However, one cannot ignore the fact that Windows 10 comes with all the data collection features  turned on-by-default. Now, this certainly is an issue of concern for some governments.

 

Canada to the Rescue!

I'm glad someone is finally taking up this issue, the problem with Microsoft's "Users can turn our crap off" is that turning the crap off doesn't change anything at all, it only says it's off.

 

 

CANADA’S CONCERNS:

For instance, Canada’s local authorities are enraged over this finding and want to look into the matter rather seriously that whether Win10 complies with the legislation of the country or not.
 
In this regard, MetroNews Canada reports that in this region software firms are required to seek users’ consent about services involving data collection and/or use of private details. The significance of users’ consent increases with the sensitivity of data collected.
 
Provided that Win10 gathers personal data such as name, address, keystrokes or typed words and voice commands, therefore, this operating system clearly falls into the ‘consent required’ category. Thus, Canadian authorities are now trying to evaluate whether or not the operating system breaches Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act.

 

I think anything regarding a user's information should be private by default, well that's kinda impossible, in 40 or so years we'll have PCs built into our body along with that comes spyware and ads and ad-blocks and malware, maybe even paralyze or killswitches.

Well i think nobody would have guessed this. Kudos to Canada for helping the first world with it's problems :) I always liked Canada, I'm guessing Linus has to do something with this!

Canadian government has the right to investigate anyone they want

They passed a law that allows them to demand ALL your information from ISPs, and they are forced to comply.

 

MUCH worse than windows 10

 

Windows 10 can only track what you do on your windows 10 device

The Canadian government gets EVERYTHING that is connected to your internet, from any device.

Everything like that was in windows 8, you had to not use express settings and then turn that shit on but windows 10 turns stuff like that on regardless of what you pick xD I'm using it on my laptop but my desktop is staying 8 until I see a good reason to upgrade

What this amounts to is our (my) government wanting access to whatever data Microsoft is storing on Canadian users. Microsoft has probably denied access to this data, and now our government is escalating this to force microsoft's hand. Either Microsoft cough's up the data to the Canadian government, or they will be publicly scrutinized. I could be completely wrong, but this seems to be the most likely scenario to me.

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Maybe now a few more people will start noticing the severe problem that is blanket data collect, whether it's by corporations or governments, it needs to end.

 

Sadly, I will have to agree with others here that this is more of a "we want a piece of that pie" thing rather than actual concerns for Canadian citizens.

All the Win10 spyware is being sent onto Win7 and 8 even with updates off.

I run my browser through NSA ports to make their illegal jobs easier. :P

Eh, I just blocked every single domains/servers that Microsoft is using for data collection, directly in my router... They may bypass the host file on my computer, but I seriously doubt they can bypass the router's firewall.

Okay seriously, I've installed Windows 10. Right there in the install procedures there's a screen that says "Do you want to install with default settings or not?" and unless you choose to use default settings you get to turn off all the tracking and choose your default apps for everything. If those settings DON'T WORK then maybe there's an issue, but they definitely exist and are available DURING the upgrade/install procedure.
