well, yah, kind of yes actiually. it will probably wreck or at least tarnish all the blocks and rads, but it would work as long as the pump is strong enough

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

I helped my roommate build his first computer today. We were installing windows but with a few hiccups. He asked me if we were installing windows onto the motherboard. Not as if he were asking if the Sata connector was loose, but asking as if that's what we were suppose to be doing. We both take the same Computer major and one of the required courses was learning about OS, how they work and how they interact with the hardware.

You do make a very valid argument in my book. Going back to him talking about Dave Lee, teachers/professors always tell you when writing a paper to cite multiple sources.

I remember back in the day. When my Burger King I was employed at first go WiFi. We had a sticker on the door that said free WiFI as well as it was on the sign out front. Some one came in asking about free Wee Fee and asked what it was. We were like its WiFi for one you dingus and its free internet. They were like OH. That was not really suprising as most of the customers who come thru have the IQ of -600. They just see free and want whats free.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Never did it, should have, what's your results/findings in general?

For me google is longer what it used to be, it's a very capable company, no doubt, but since a very long time I started noticing that their results are getting less useful, too much "played with", also you notice how they they show you like 1 million results but if you keep clicking you only find 10 pages at best, what's that about? when they say 7 pages you click and they shrink to 3... the problem is the competition is very bad but I stopped researching new things on the internet, never even heard of startpage.

StartPage is just another private search engine just like DuckDuckGo, but it gives similar results like Google. (I personally like this one, and has built-in proxy as well, but it's slower to load compared to both DuckDuckGo and Google)

DuckDuckGo always give different results to me but it's more consistent, what you do on the internet doesn't really affect the next search result.

Sometimes I just use Google, but using this URL (https://encrypted.google.com/).

I personally use DuckDuckGo mainly because it has !Bang so I can access sites quicker like for example I want to open YouTube I can just type !yt *name of video* and it will directly go to YouTube with the name of the video searched already.

I still can't say what's the best one, that's why I still compare search results from these three.

The results from StartPage and Google are similar, but not for DuckDuckGo.

Thank you for the info, I was looking at the settings and explanation from startpage and I am impressed, a lot of nice features and it saves settings with no email or signing in but having the same results as google is not interesting to me, google filters a lot of pages, I want more results not less.

I thought encrypted google had something with more secure connection but it seems to be the same as https google except for more control on leaking info to http sites or going to http ads, still good to know, thanks again :)

This one is about my peasant brother, who works in IT.

Recently he asks me how he could possibly get his PC 'streamed' to his TV to play games on it.

I responde, isn't your TV just like 3 meters away from your PC?

He's like, yeah, what about it?

Me, just use a long HDMI cable?

Him, lol, sounds good.

Couple days later he messages me, right in the process of 'setting it up'. After getting sorted out the 'you can only play on your primary monitor'-problem he's like:

'lmao, why do I need an Xbox again? This is awesome!'

And now I just have to convince him to spend the money he would've spend on a XboneS on a new GPU, as his 760 isn't really the greatest anymore.

Hopefully I have now finally helped my (27y/o) brother out of his misery peasant life. You are always welcome to the PCMR, my friend!

I type up "youtube [search term]" in my Firefox address bar and it does the same thing.

Because Firefox has had this feature called "search keywords" since forever.

EDIT: In pre-emption that I'm being misunderstood, I don't mean to say I type up "youtube [search term]" in the address bar and it takes me to whatever search engine results come up for YouTube with that search term. It goes to YouTube's website with the search results, as if you searched from the site itself.

You just right click on the search bar of any website and click on "Add a Keyword for this search." It's then added in your bookmarks so you can export/import as necessary.

No Damn Small Linux is a stand alone Linus Distro. Back in the day it could easily fit on a CD-R, under 700 MB.

You could fit 14 copies of DSL onto a 700mb CD, the system is around 50mb. It runs well on even a Pentium I and supposedly can run on an i486 and 8mb of RAM.

See above why DSL maybe be a bit off for such a laptop. Additionally the latest version was released multiple years ago and still uses the Linux kernel 2.4, resulting in an insecure/outdated system.

Ultimately, every system is insecure to an extent. With Linux, the consumer user base isn't there to justify many broad stroke attacks.

There are people still running XP happily, because it does what they need. Outdated doesn't automatically mean suddenly useless.

How in the world is THIS considered a display that's fully off? There's still a portion lit up to tell the user where to place their finger and to aid the optical sensor in sensing.

Dude, product engineers are laughing at the comment you made.

Improvements and evolution are literally what helps progression. Engineers are hardly satisfied. They will always strive to improve their product in any way they can. Even if you think it's good enough, the engineers are already thinking of ways to improve it.

And I wasn't demanding change. I simply said in my OP how I'll probably wait to see how it evolves since this is first generation application on a consumer product. Yes, I agree that we shouldn't be entirely judgemental until we use it, but saying that I'm daft for expecting improvements is enough to make product engineers laugh.
