Sleep vs Shut Down

I technically keep it on 24/7 but it is in sleep mode when I'm not using it. Can't stand the start up process.

Hello, I remember like week ago linus said "who turns off theyr PCs thees days  anyway" . Welp, I do. Just talked with friend who lost important game match because of BSOD, he haven't turned off pc for 2 weeks. So why wouldn't you turn off pc if you may lose your work/match because of it? Thees days system boots in 20 sec anyways.

I restart every 3 days probably. I use my computer lots and even with 9 second boot times its annoying. Also starting/restarting puts a lot of stress on components.

I keep my computer running 24/7 for a couple of reasons:

1) Don't feel like waiting for it to boot up. It's faster to just turn my monitors off/on.

2) I run a Plex server.

If I'm not mistaken my friend used sleep mode. Not 100% sure tho.

I turn it off at night because I hate noise.

Although once I finally move my PC into my R4 it will be nearly silent anyway

My computer is a foot from my bed, so I don't really want that noise at night. What's the actual difference between sleep and shut down anyway?

Specs are on my profile page

Sleep is the computer still running just with all background processes gone and at a reduced everything. Shutting a computer down means nothing is working in the background and nothing in the computer is running.

I made it mac so no one would be sad. :)

Shutting it down is actually really bad?

I am constantly or well trying to constantly have my pcs downloading stuff so they are on 24/7.  Also I do not pay the electric bill where I live so no worry.  Thing is though I do make an effort to have all other stuff off during the day and night that doesn't need to be on at all for me to offset the pcs being on all the time.

Too many ****ing games!  Back log 4 life! :S

having the constant heat and power draw will kill your pc WAY faster then turning off at night.

i love noise xD. i sleep with a humidifier, fan, and sometimes my pc running. lawl. i would rather sleep in a cargo ship then a sound proof room.

Is that true? It doesn't make much sense to me. It makes more sense that constantly running would wear them out faster

@

No it isn't true.

Hardware barely cares what way it is shut off, it loses power one way or the other. Less wear and tear is good. The only danger is if software is doing something and you shut down in the middle of it.
