Sleep vs Shut Down

I turn my computer off whenever I don't use it so that it will last slightly longer in the long run.

Something, something, something, famous quote, computer specs, and stuff...

i dont understand why people dont turn it off at night or when they will be away for more than 3-4 hours.

Its doing nothing, its eating up power and wearing out your parts ( in the end it prolly wont make a difference but you never know) Except if youre folding or doing something, but leaving your pc idling all day just seems extremely dumb

Hey there. You are looking mighty fine today, have my virtual cookie!

The only time it's off is when my dad turns it off, incorrectly.

I unplugged my power button from front panel header :D

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

Ye 2 years ago when I built my first gaming pc i kept my system on for a whole week mainly for downloading. After that I just turn it off while sleeping or when I'm not at home.

Sent from my Nexus 7 (2013).

Years...

24/7 for me. It's my gaming rig but it's also my server/streaming machine. All my laptops, tablet and phones backup to it. I also stream from and to it daily. It's in the living room connected on my TV so yeah... it's on.

i keep mine running 24/7 because i use it as my tv and radio. I also watch things on it when i fall asleep so when i wake up at 3 or 4 i don't really want to have to turn on my computer again to play something.

I used to turn my PC off when I went to bed or was leaving for a decent amount of time. Since moving in with my mate i've been leaving it running almost all the time. We use it as a clock at night and there's really no point. I was also having a problem starting the thing up a couple months ago until I re-installed Windows. I have an SSD in here so startup times are pretty low, but between those months of me being too lazy to re-install Windows and actually having some use at night it doesn't matter. Now it only gets shut down or rebooted if I have an update or there's some issue like the other day where my soundcard had a stuck sound on it coming from seemingly nowhere.

What is the longest you've ever had it on continuously for?

I think I've clocked up 9 days and 10 hours or so and that is my personal record which I am not in a hurry to break.

I actually built my systems to be pretty power efficient, so I didn't feel bad about leaving them on all the time.  I have them doing things when Im not there, plus the little bit of noise from the collective fans helps me stay asleep, drowning out odd noises from outside the house.
