PCI Bus Utilization is notoriously difficult to measure as it's clocked so fast and getting stupidly fast these days with Gen4 and 5 at play. About the only way to figure out if your bus bottlenecked is by measuring yields of the same WU in different slot configurations. There's a 18 page thread over at Folding Forum where people did just that. In my BiFrost build in my sig I also did some testing when using m.2 to PCIe3x4 in x16 risers to see what impact, if any, was there going down to PCIe3x4 from x8 and x16. TLDR is Linux - No Problem - Windows about a 20% decrease in PPD for higher end GPUs. Granted this was before Windows improvements with Core22 ...

Thanks for the reply and info!

the everlasting struggle. If not for Nvidia, AMD or maybe even Intel releases the next best thing mere hours after you confirm the purchase.

i guess that's just the tech industry we live in.

From what were seeing if they DO release a Ti its highly unlikely its going scale up that much.  I'm more concerned at CPUs, because you know a 5950X is really not powerful enough for a 4090. 😉

Seriously though, I just want to be able to run 4K 120Hz at 220-330W in most games, always be able to install the hires texture pack, stop getting VRAM low errors in Far Cry 6, F@H like a beast and know I have some room for turning the power limit back up again when required.

Plus the way things are going with the cost of living, this might be my last upgrade for a while so I'm just going for it now while I can (well, once I can, not paying above FE prices).

Doesn't legendary still do occasional folding on a different name?  I thought he just gave up the name and continual folding around the same time as leaving here.  I should go bug 'em on their own site, as I always enjoy looking at their builds.

Mine has been running open air due to being a P2 era case and not really having airflow, and it's been collecting a moderate coating of dust. And I THINK it's using the cable that came with the PSU. With how many times I have moved my life in the past year and how many IEC plugs I have it's hard to tell.

one of my rules of thumb with that is if the prongs(in the USA)  on the plug are brass tossem as if they are Folded metal tossem only use on your computer if Nikel Plated and AWG 16(up to 800Watt) or 14(850W+) (When i worked at a major comptuer mfg many moons ago that was their cut off for shipping 14 awg vs 16 not sure what it is currently) and i may be nuts but if i cycle the plug more than 50 times i order a new one and relegate the old one to the wire cutters then trash to guarantee non reuse.

Also i will use awg 18 for monitors or computers under 500watt psu but thats it

Its the sockets on UPS that really bother me, sometimes they are alarmingly loose.  Glad my latest one has some UK outlets on it.

Mind you bought an IEC to UK socket adapter off Amazon and it was junk, the UK socket they used was loose so I ended up rewiring better one myself.

Yeah, that can be sketchy too but if my UPS plugs get loose, I stop using the outlet on the ups and move to another. or if all outlets or too many are loose, I will replace last 2 that have had loose plugs I went to APCs website and got credit for new ones i only buy 1500va+ Ups's

@BiotechBen You have a Radeon RX 480 that you're folding with, right? If so, how many points are you averaging per day? I'm thinking about picking up another RX 580 for folding month since the one I bought a couple weeks ago is working so well.

Phobos: AMD Ryzen 7 2700, 16GB 3000MHz DDR4, ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 8GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070, 2GB Nvidia GeForce GT 1030, 1TB Samsung SSD 980, 450W Corsair CXM, Corsair Carbide 175R, Windows 10 Pro

Polaris: Intel Xeon E5-2697 v2, 32GB 1600MHz DDR3, ASRock X79 Extreme6, 12GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080, 6GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, 1TB Crucial MX500, 750W Corsair RM750, Antec SX635, Windows 10 Pro

Pluto: Intel Core i7-2600, 32GB 1600MHz DDR3, ASUS P8Z68-V, 4GB XFX AMD Radeon RX 570, 8GB ASUS AMD Radeon RX 570, 1TB Samsung 860 EVO, 3TB Seagate BarraCuda, 750W EVGA BQ, Fractal Design Focus G, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

York (NAS): Intel Core i5-2400, 16GB 1600MHz DDR3, HP Compaq OEM, 240GB Kingston V300 (boot), 3x2TB Seagate BarraCuda, 320W HP PSU, HP Compaq 6200 Pro, TrueNAS CORE (12.0)

480 is bringing in 400-650PPD depending on the WU's I get. One thing to not is that I've got a high bin card from xfx, so a marginal 580 is going to bring in about the same

Watts: 125

Core: 1355

Mem: 2110

Voltages: auto.

Full speed blower fan.

Seems to really like cancer WU and hate influenza

Interesting. My Sapphire Pulse RX 580 8GB, which is running at stock settings (1366MHz core, 2000MHz memory, auto voltage, auto fan speed), is currently getting around 750K PPD. I'm pretty impressed with it, especially since it's installed in an old PCIe 2.0 system that's running three total GPUs for F@h.

Thanks for those numbers. Just wasn't sure how much of a difference the 580 was over the 480 for F@h.

Heh, I'm not quite at the point where 1 million PPD is my threshold. I've only got a couple cards that get a million PPD.

The 3050ti (85w) in my laptop and the 480 (125w) I have are about the same Passmark performance, 480 scores about 600k PPD, 3050ti scores 1.2-1.3M PPD. Talk about different architectures and architectural improvements.

An 85W 3050Ti only does 1.2-1.3M PPD? My 90W 1660Ti mobile can do 1.8M on a good day, if it weren't limited by thermals
