Some manufactures just have bad fan curves, and as pointed out my 1070 was such a card forcing me to go 100% manually to the point it became a habit to just leave it on 100% most of the time...

Yeah, my 1060 did that and my friend's 1070 does that too. It's not "bad curves" per se, it's just different priorities valued by the manufacturer - because of how Pascal's boost algorithm aggressively boosts above it's stated boost clock, they (whoever made the card) decided to have the card throttle down instead of speeding the fans up to 100% every time. Honestly, it works, because I've seen my friend's 5 year old 1070 at 82c quite often and it's still working just fine.

Mine was the same but I think it ran around 75C, till it fried somehow lol... If I can pick up a cheap gpu that requires PCI power cables I'll find out if it was me or the psu then. Hopefully me because the PSU is a nice unit.

We are doing only a fraction of what we did last folding month, but we have less than 150 active folders, last folding month we had 800 or so active folders. 

 

Our average points per active folder is also lower compared to last years event

Last year is an exception because a lot of people started folding because of COVID-19, and now a lot of them have dropped off across the project. The LTT team had a large influx of temporary folders because we had the most accessible folding guides during the crisis. 2019 would be a more relevant data point to compare with IMO, and if I'm not mistaken we're doing better since then.

I'm down a GPU as well as my 1070ti is underperforming currently (700k ppd vs the normal 1.2-1.3M, not sure if it's just WU allocation but it started right as the folding event started)

I've also noticed lower PPD than expected on my 20 series cards, my two 1080s are performing as expected so far.

Guys I may need to back off folding slightly during in the day, I'm going to try to see out the next couple days and evaluate from there.

 

my energy provider went bust and we have been moved to a more expensive tariff, especially higher costs during the peak, so I may have to cut out four hours a day to miss the peak costs. 

 

We shall see how much financial pressure I end up in... I'm going to throw my smoking money(seeing as i've quit) on the power meter and hope for the best.

Actually last year was a pretty standard folding month compared to the year before. The Emergency covid folding event had over 8k sign ups and that was the stupid event that continuously broke my sheets

the Energy market is crazy at the moment, companies going bust, prices are crazy high so no competition and no changing suppliers.

 

My mums deal is finishing tomorrow and can't change over as no one is taking on new customers. its also cheaper to go on the standard rate so it is "capped" to the governments max

 

lucikly my deal is until March so hopefully things calm down then

OK, I won't complain about the 8.2 cents/kWH rate here in Ontario doubling to 16 cents/kWH during peak Time of Use (ToU) rates here in Ontario.

 

The main reason I'm not participating in this event is I'm running about 1kW CPU (BOINC) and 1.5kW GPU (Mostly F@H with 2 Pascal on BOINC) and I can't afford to run them 24x7 for 5 weeks as that would exceed my budget for Electricity.

 

Currently I'm running the systems for 18 hours a day (mid and off-peak) and "finishing" F@H at 05:30 to avoid the 07:00-11:00 on-peak and then "un-pausing" at 11:00 and "pausing" at 17:00 then "un-pausing" at 19:00 to avoid the second 17:00-19:00 on-peak ToU period.

 

It was a nice price break here during the initial COVID lock down as the government here capped the Electricity rates at the off-peak prices but that's over with now.

I don't fold on CPUs anymore apart from a couple machines that are also used for heating rooms.

i run folding on TR cpus. 1 intel cpu but that a mining mobo one.

what CPU's specifically? i see that 2990WX (sick) in your signature, and i'm pretty curious how it would stack up to a similar EPYC. i have a 24-core and numbers of my old 32-core to compare.

what version of epyc?

seeing i both have a 2990wx and a 1950x.

i should mention i manage to all lock the 29 cpu 3ghz all core with zero dip. but it takes a 360 i am using to cool it. i also hammer it with prime grid stuff to.
