AMD Announces Fidelity FX Super Resolution, their competitor to Nvidia DLSS. They've confirmed that it will be brand agnostic and work across 100+ GPUs and CPUs.

My thoughts

 It's great to see AMD FSR finally coming out officially and even better to see AMD pushing forward with their open standards that can be used by pretty much any hardware from the past few years, and not artificially limit it to working only on AMD cards of the latest generation unlike some other GPU makers have done...

Without watching this whole vid, do we have a list of the first set of games that support this? 

 

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

I didn't watch the video but does it still rely on AMD training models for each game like Nvidia does?

I reckon this will become like G-Sync vs Freesync.  AMD implementation is inferior but get widely adopted.

There was a lot of AMD competing technologies before freesynch that basically fell away.  Freesynch was a first success after many many failures. Makes sense to attempt to copy it.  Lightning might strike twice.

DLSS is locked onto nVidia cards, and if you'd watched the vid, even GTX 1000 series cards can use FSR. Do you see nVidia doing anything resembling this? For sure, first gen FSR might be less than spectacular, so was DLSS 1.0 if you can recall. DLSS is locked onto nVidia cards, and if you'd watched the vid, even GTX 1000 series cards can use FSR. Do you see nVidia doing anything resembling this? For sure, first gen FSR might be less than spectacular, so was DLSS 1.0 if you can recall. I'm just hoping FSR will be supported in the games I play, especially Metro Exodus PC EE (need a boost with RT enabled).

I am not sure why you are quoting him as your statement makes no sense in the context of what dizmo said. I agree with @dizmoas AMD's software implementation never is as polished, I am also certain that first generation FSR certainly will be less than spectacular and it is going to take AMD much longer to get it to acceptable levels.

Yeah, but i just found out AMD's published a patent about FSR recently and one image in particular show deep-learning involved so probably not a rebrand.

I think it will go AMD announces and releases on the 22nd. A bunch of marketer made misleading graphs are used and wild claims are made.  Then reviews come out and we get a better idea.  A few days go by it gets into some hands and stuff comes out so by mid July we’ll have a decent idea of what it actually is.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Haha, running FSR on GTX 1060 was a power move indeed 😄 Also having FSR work on everything from Polaris cards and up is indeed a great way to extend their lifetime. I bet people who have RX 570/580 are already rejoicing and I even heard many RX 480 users deciding to flash them to RX 580 to get support. Also I can imagine there us quite some users who grabbed RX 5700 series back then as they were pretty capable. And now they'll be even more capable.

 

Given it's hardware agnostic, we can already expect wider adoption, because doing this means you've done work for AMD and NVIDIA. Doing DLSS means you've only done it for NVIDIA. Now it'll be just a matter of how much money NVIDIA is willing to throw at this situation to shill their tech. Seeing DLSS become hardware agnostic is something I'm not expecting at all.

It works on Nvidia, they specifically mentioned gtx1060 as an example.
