Whats folding and how do I do it. 😕

Folding refers to folding proteins.  Here's a deep dive on what that means: https://foldingathome.org/dig-deeper/

To fold, download a program and allow it to run.  There are pinned threads discussing how to sign up for the LTT folding team, but to get started, just go here and follow directions: https://foldingathome.org/start-folding/

My replacement fans arrived from China yesterday for my Gigabyte GTX 1060. A quick repaste and replace and it's been added to one of my rigs. I'm sure that will put me over the top and in front of @Den-Fi

Wym by proteins, also it says I cannot join the event because I missed the signup, is there a way I can still sign up?

nope, not for this event sadly, but the F@H team here hosts regular events, and you can always just fold on your own without an event, so it;s definitely worth it to get started!

The short of it is that the shape of proteins dictates how they behave in natural systems (i.e. our bodies) and most proteins have very complicated shapes. "Folding" in our sense is running computer simulations on pieces of proteins in order to analyze how their shapes change under various circumstances.

in the dumbest of terms, you're using your computer to save the friggin' world!!

in a bit less dumb terms you're donating your PC's recourses to better mankinds' understanding of proteins for scientific and medical applications.

So its kind of like mining in a small way because we are trying to find a good simulation to show how the proteins change in to various shapes and in folding and in mining you are finding the right numbers to solve ¨problems¨ in a sense?

How hard is it to fold?

super easy. download the program, put in your team name and passkey and click fold basically.

there is some more advanced stuff if you want to get into the nitty gritty, but they made the program as accessable as possible.

For computers... not too difficult. To setup... even easier. Once you go to the link previously mentioned and follow the directions to set it up, your work is done. You literally don't have to do anything else. Your computer does all of the calculations.
