Do you shut down your PC each night?

I usually leave both mine on and only shut them down once every couple of weeks or if I go outta town.

I've always slept mine. Goes back to the days of spinning rust being your main OS drive. It was just faster to wake it from sleep rather than do a whole reboot. I still sleep to this day. No point in shutting down when I use the thing daily. I only ever restart if a program/update requires it (which is not very often for me).

During the week I usually turn my comp off and on weekends let it run aka crunch Seti.  Will be switching over to Folding after this month when Seti finally stops, bin doing it for 20yrs now.

I turn off and unplug my computer. I've had some experiences with power surges that have fried electronics, so all my expensive stuff is unplugged at night.

I shut it down.

There was a time that I was shutting my PC down because I couldn't sleep with the LEDs in it and the sound of harddrives... Since I build my new PC last year, I made sure zero LEDs were plugged in and no hard drives, SSD only. So I could leave it on... But it's a waste of electricity at that point.

But, it's windows 10. So even though I press the shutdown option in Windows, it doesn't "truly" shut down. Hence why Task Manager is saying my PC has been open for the past 3 days now... Which is why I did my last "reboot".

No, it's on standby doing folding at home. If not, then it's shutdown.

I only leave mine on to fold when it’s powered by our solar panels, which is all morning and early afternoon in sunny weather.

otherwise it’s off, unless I’m gaming.

I shut mine down as I have a custom loop going and would hate for the pump to fail in the middle of the night or spring  a leak or something similar

I shut it down because if I didn't I could sleep. Lights and whatnot keep me up. Sound as well. I need silence and pure darkness.

I find the people saying that they need to shut it down or they can't sleep entertaining.  I can remember being so used to always having a machine running near me that if the fans stopped due to a update/shutdown I would wake instantly :D

You can disable Fast Boot in the power options.

Well for me it was mostly the light pollution of the few LEDs I couldn't remove from my old PC that kept me awake. I need total darkness to sleep.

I just cannot fathom people who actually deliberately put RGB LEDs in their cases, they are literally insane to me.

As for noise, it's hard drives... they spin up, down, up, down... sometimes there's a click with older ones... These noises are different from a fan, which is constant. I can sleep just fine with fans.

my pc is running like 10 hours a day i would say

if i go to bad and watch tv shows my pc is still running  because its my plex server, when i poweroff my tv i have a script that can detect that and shutdown my pc aswell

before i had fibre my pc was running almost 247 because i was downloading so much, but with fibre i can download what i downloaded in a month back in the day, in less then a day now so theres no need to leaving it on 247

I shut it down every night or when not in use for extended periods of time, but since the F@H project is going, my PC is probably gonna be working some overtime.

wasting power is never a good idea also power is not cheap where i am so i always turn it off when i dont need it within the next hour or so.

Booting is so fast there is no reason at all to leave it running.

I keep my daily driver (laptop) running all the time, except when it crashes, it somehow forces me to do an update (even when I've turned it off, sometimes it makes life miserable after a month or so of uptime until I update), or if I"m doing a hardware swap.

My desktop, on the other hand, I only turn it on when I'm doing something with it, maybe several times a year at this point.

Yes, I turn it off (unless it's folding, like it is, right now). I see no reason not to. Boot times are so fast that it makes no considerable difference, and why should I be using the energy when I get no practical use out of it at that time?
