I don't get why people like/want wirelesscharging?

No, although I take care of my stuff, with micro USB I always wore out the clip on the cable that holds it in the port. Wireless charging isn't worth it over plugging the phone in IMO, but it's nice as a feature to have.

Let's face it.  Cable "PORTS" Wear out, some severely quick.   After a few month's of use, every phones charging port gets "Loose" and beat up from plugging it in and out too much. 

Wireless charging is just Convenient.  Say for example, your about to lay down to sleep. set your phone down, and that's it. 1.2.3.  Quick and easy.

The phone that broke for me was only a $50 one (and after 2 years), that being said the USB ports do wear out rapidly, especially if you are someone who charges their phone daily.
Cables themselves can be a problem as well. Even being careful I'm still onto my 5th micro b cable. And my current phone was only bought in March 2018

It's nice to have both charging features on a phone. I can charge with a cable at home, but when I'm at work and say I forgot my charging cable, if there is wireless charging, I can use that. Slow wireless charging is better than no charging especially when you don't have your charging cable.

yeaaa i tend to keep my phones for several years at a time and have never had a charging port wear out to the point it doesn't work.. and i mean at home keep 1 charging cable plugged in, it takes just as long to stick the usb cable in the phone as it does to set it down... in the end wireless charging is a gimmick at this stage untill i can walk in a room and have my phone start charging.

On my first smart phone I used to have to wrap the charging cable around the phone when it was Plugged in. Just to get it to charge, because of an issue with the charging port. So yeah, they can wear out. While its likely to be less if your phone uses a type C connector, Im not sure about the lightning connector but id imagine its a bit more durable than USB Micro B.

No it's not. Most modern cars have wireless charging, caffee's have wireless chargers and they all work without any cable and with ANY capable phone. It doesn't matter what kind of port you have on a phone, it'll work And it's relatively quick despite wireles losses.

 

Even charging rooms will be a gimmick. When everything will be wirelessly charged, then it's gonna be cool. Wirelessly powered cars, phones, laptops, desktop systems, you name it. Unless we figure out portable power source immensely better than current crappy batteries...

I disagree. I don't personally own a wireless charger but I recently used one after thinking what you were. Really like what others have said, its a convince thing. For example at work at a desk, its pretty convenient to have the phone sitting in front of you and you can just pick it up and put it down and it stays charged seamlessly. People will pay for the convenience, no matter how much you personally think you'll just put up with a cable. The charging pads aren't even that expensive. Its a convenience many people want, and is easily affordable. I can see someone scoffing at someone rich paying a stupid amount of money for a convenience, but wireless charging is at the point where its not a frivolity like that. Its affordable and makes life easier, people will want it and buy it.

Disney showed this off many years ago. They were able to push 50ws in a decently sized room. Concern was unknown health risks but they were going to use it in waiting areas in theme parks

It sounds like you dislike wireless charging for some pretty nonsensical reasons.

 

1. Ok, so don't use the phone when you're charging it? Most phones should be able to last you the day. Toss the phone on the cradle during the night, and your problem is solved. Or, here's a novel idea, don't touch your phone for the maybe hour it takes to charge. That shouldn't be a hard feat. If you really need to use your phone while it charges, why not just get one of the cradle style chargers? Problem solved.

2. They're slower than fast chargers, sure, but they're still vastly faster than most standard chargers included with the majority of phones if you get a decent one.

3. True, but they're getting there. It's still relatively new technology, you can't really expect perfection from the get go.

 

Here's a few pretty convenient uses for wireless charging:

1. When you're out and about, in a cafe or similar public place. Having them built into tables etc is the best way to offer charging services.

2. Same as above but in vehicles.

3. In the morning you don't need to fumble with cables. Just pick up your phone and go. Same with when you plug it in, you don't need to go hunting for cables.

4. How often do you just put your phone down on your desk while you're doing something else? Why not have a charging pad there, and it'll get a charge without you even really thinking about it?

Haha, sure, but how many people are really using those? Not many. With most new TVs and such, HDMI adapters aren't needed either.

That seems rather backwards, if i need to use the phone its much more convenient to just plug it in, but wireless charging is a feature I'd use on occasion to prevent the charge port from wearing out.  And everyone had the same excuse of "just don't use your phone while charging it" with manufacturers taking away the 3.5mm jack to save a few cents, seems a lot less convenient to me to not be able to use the device whenever I'd like.

2. Even mid range phones come with 10-15w fast chargers nowadays, wireless charging heats up the battery and is much less efficient. Extra heat on the battery is an issue especially since manufacturers insist on gluing phones shut for "water resistance" instead of replaceable batteries.

3. Wireless charging isn't anything new, and its still worse than plugging it into the wall.

I keep a wired and wireless charger by my bed.  If I need some quick juice for my phone, well my iPad charger can also be used as a fast charger according to Apple.  Otherwise, I set it on the wireless charger when I go to bed to sleep.

I'm sleeping, can't use my phone while I'm sleeping.

My friend has Galaxy S9 and has a car mount with wireless charging, which is cool for 9 months of the year and useless for 3 because the phone's so hot, it won't charge without cable, even with A/C the sun and wireless charging and maximum brightness(because it's sunny af) means it loses more energy than it gets.

 

I'd pay up to $20 for wireless charging to be in my phone, it's the maximum it's worth imo.

I'm using a oneplus 5 right now. And one of the big reasons I didn't get the new one yet is that it still misses wireless charging. Honestly its not that big of a deal. But I don't see a reason to upgrade yet. So I'm waiting for them to incorporate this convenient feature.(or my current one to break)

 

I wouldn't use it if i needed a fast charge. But it would be really handy to use in the car or at my desk. I'm working in IT so I have to leave my desk fairly regular. A cable is really cumbersome in those situations. And lets be honest how many times did a colleague or you yourself forget your charger. Mainstream wireless charging adoption mean our offices will come default with some solution in place. Bonuspoints if it can charge other devices itself.(like the new galaxy can)

My phone supports wireless charging and came with a charging pad, but I prefer to charge it over USB 2.0 instead.  Slower charging is more healthy for the battery in the long run and I fully intend to keep this phone for at least 5 years.

Like the loss of the head phone jack, it could lead to better waterproofing.  That's a plus.

It's useful if when you go to sleep just throw the phone onto the wireless charger and go to sleep instead of finding the cable. But I see what you mean it is quite useless besides that. You can only do it during sleep because it takes so long

i do agree mostly but i also see the appeal for alot of people. you come home and you sit your phone down anyway let it be the couch, desk kitchen counter, whatever you dont wear it on you in your house so you might aswell just put it on the charging pad. new cars sometimes have a wireless charging tray now which again i think it very practical cause youre not on your phone anyway you might as well just put it in the try and have it charging. but again as it is right now i also prefer cables.

1. Again, charging overnight, or with the speeds wireless charging is getting to, not touching your phone for a bit shouldn't be an issue.

2. Yes, but phones are coming with 25w - 30w wireless charging, with 40w wireless charging in the works. Also the heating isn't as much of an issue anymore either, with something like 98% efficiency on the latest wireless charging spec.

3. Not really. Not if you have a decent phone and pad.

 

1. The cost isn't on you, why does it matter? It's not like a single company is shelling out the money for all the access points. That's a nonsensical argument.

3. It only takes seconds to throw it on a charging pad. What's your point? Again, moot.

4. It's not that bad, and there are advances. Did you know that it's full cycles that affect a lithium battery, and not how many times you plug in the charger?
